Prospero-win brings native Windows game support to homebrew PS5
Developer mpereiraesaa has released the first public build of prospero-win, a homebrew app that can run Windows games directly on a homebrew enabled PS5. Using its own copy of Wine, no PC is required and the games run directly on the PS5. Version 0.1.0 is described as experimental, with a handful of games reportedly working quite well already.
Games go through prospero-win's own x86 translator. Direct3D 8-11 games draw through DXVK and Vulkan and older OpenGL games, 2D games and GDI programs are supported too. DualSense is supported including xinput compatible controls, rumble and custom mappings for keyboard and mouse games - or you can even plug in a USB KBM to play.
It's own launcher displays your games, each with its own profile for graphics and control settings.
Release Notes said:
- 64-bit Windows programs run natively on the PS5's x86-64 CPU. 32-bit games run through prospero-win's own x86 translator.
- Direct3D 8, 9, 10 and 11 games draw through DXVK and Vulkan. Older OpenGL games are supported too, and so are 2D games and Windows programs that draw with GDI.
- You can play with the DualSense (Xbox-style XInput, analog sticks, triggers and rumble, plus custom mappings for keyboard-and-mouse games) or with a USB keyboard and mouse.
- Game audio comes out of the PS5's own audio output.
- A launcher lists your games. Each game has a profile with its graphics and control settings.
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Half-Life, Counter-Strike 1.6, OpenArena, Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and Space Cadet Pinball are on the working list, with some needing extras such as DXVK or LAV Filters in the game folder.
There are limits: only one program runs at a time, so installers and games needing launchers won't run and there's no 16bit Windows or DOS support. Also, mouse wheels wont' work yet and nothing with DRM or anti-cheat will run.
