Hi everyone,

We have always promoted GBAtemp user's projects on the frontpage through the regular news coverage but we always hit a cross roads when doing so.
  • Do we leave the news thread open for comments, and risk splitting the discussion across two places?
  • Or do we lock the news thread and send everyone to the original thread, which leaves the article looking ignored with zero replies?
We think we found a solution with our new thread promotion system; a news article can now be intertwined directly with the thread it's covering. Put simply, we will take an existing thread on GBAtemp - be it a homebrew project, interesting discussion or whatever else.

Then we can promote it directly on the homepage, where our regular news editors will write a short piece covering it and then directly below the that; the first page of the original thread will be shown. We hope that this helps give the author a good spotlight and prevents the above dilemma.

Banners above and below the embedded thread clearly indicate that the posts are from the original thread and you can react to posts normally and even reply and it will work just as though you are in the original author's thread.

The GBAtemp portal box comment count and reaction summary will reflect those of the original thread as well.

Thread authors will gain a "Front page" thread prefix on the original thread and also get a 100XP bonus and exclusive trophy if their thread is promoted using this system.

If you want to get your homebrew project featured on our homepage like this, feel free to reach out via PM or use the 'report' button on your own thread and request it via that system.

The first 2 examples of this system are below:

 Minish Cap Switch port 'Alek's Ultimate NX Edition' hits v1.5.0
 MissionControl 0.16.0 adds FW 23.0.0/23.0.1 support + DualSense tweaks

Thanks.

Two places sounds better in case it ends up flooding the original thread. In practice, using the latter option, it looks like basically no comments followed in the original threads. It sounds like this made it confusing enough for readers not to know where to comment.

I still feel like two separate places is better as it should be obvious where the original discussion thread lies, whereas news posts tend to have discussion surrounding general discussion rather than troubleshooting and whatnot.

Would it be possible to add a save as draft option when replying to a post? Maybe an additional button near the UBBC that saves text or something. Not sure if this would be better to ask in a new thread. Sometimes when I'm typing and go to look for an image to paste in my browser it refreshes and everything I typed erases.
