So just a quick rundown, luminescent platinum (LP) is a romhack of BDSP. I have save files already in BD and LP. I could have modded SP to be LP but i didnt and now i have a deep save file so thats no longer an option. Disabling and applying the mod via SimpleModManager takes a really long time with LP. I want to avoid that by just having both BD and LP active at all times and i am wondering if anyone knows how to do that? Like packing LP into its own NSP or something
Rather than LP, it's better to have a BD made into a custom nsp
Vanilla Brilliant Diamond will never receive another official update from Nintendo, it is permanently stuck on version 1.3.0 Luminescent Platinum, however, gets updated by its developers fairly often
If you make the Vanilla BD the custom NSP, it becomes a "build once and forget it" solution You will never have to repack it again Meanwhile, LP gets to stay on the standard Title ID, meaning you can just drag and drop the normal LP update files into your atmosphere/contents/ folder like you always have, without ever needing to use PC tools again
The Setup
You will use a PC tool like NSC_Builder or Switch Army Knife (SAK) for this
Take your clean base dump of Brilliant Diamond and the official 1.3.0 update file
Use the tool to merge the base game and the update, and select the option to change or patch the Title ID to something custom (e.g., changing 0100000011D90000 to 0100000011D90001)
Repack it as an NSP and install it via Tinfoil or DBI. This will pop up as a brand-new icon on your Switch. This is now your dedicated Vanilla BD

Hi, thats a great solution. Do you have a method to do this for 3ds titles as well? I am looking to mod certain versions of a game but also keep the vanilla versions.

Hi, thats a great solution. Do you have a method to do this for 3ds titles as well? I am looking to mod certain versions of a game but also keep the vanilla versions.
1. Dump your vanilla game as a decrypted .cia file.
2. Transfer the file to your PC and use a command-line extraction tool like HackingToolkit9DS or CTR-Batch-CIA-Builder to unpack the .cia into its core components (romfs, exefs, header.bin).
3. Copy your romhack's modified files into the extracted romfs folder, overwriting the vanilla assets.
4. To prevent a conflict, you must alter the game's Unique ID in the header.bin or .rsf configuration file depending on your toolkit. Change the last 3 to 4 digits to something unused (e.g., modifying 0004000000164800 to 00040000001648FF).
4. Repackage the extracted folders back into a .cia file and install it
1. You will need a file named prod.keys. Place this file into the ztools folder inside the NSC_Builder directory and rename the file to keys.txt.
2. Double-click Interface.bat to open the command window.
3. Type 1 and press Enter to select the "Process List" or "Individual packing" mode. Drag and drop both your Brilliant Diamond Base NSP and the 1.3.0 Update NSP directly into the window. Press Enter to confirm.
4. Type 1 to start processing the list, and then select the option to "Repack as NSP."
5. As you follow the repacking prompts, the tool will offer options to modify file properties, patch required system versions, and alter the Title ID. Select the Title ID patching option and input your new custom sequence (e.g., changing 0100000011D90000 to 0100000011D90001).
6. Confirm your final selections. The tool will merge the base game with the update, apply your new Title ID, and output your dedicated Vanilla BD game into the NSCB_output folder.

If you use Switch Army Knife / SAK
1. Copy your prod.keys file and paste it directly into the bin folder located inside the main SAK directory.
2. Open the SAK.exe application.
3. On the main graphical menu, click the button labeled Update NSP.
4. A new prompt will appear with two main selection fields. In the first field, browse your computer and select your clean Brilliant Diamond Base NSP. In the second field, select your 1.3.0 Update NSP.
5. Look for the advanced settings or a dedicated text field on this screen that allows you to override the Title ID. Type your new custom Title ID here (0100000011D90001). Note: If your specific version of SAK only handles standard merging and does not expose a Title ID override option, you will need to use the NSC_Builder method above to ensure the ID is changed.
6. Click the Patch or Update button. SAK will process the files and generate your combined custom NSP in its output folder.
