AstroCore brings Super Mario Galaxy to PC via full decompilation

The 2007 Nintendo Wii classic Super Mario Galaxy has reportedly been 100% decompiled by the SMGCommunity under the project codename Petari, and now a standalone PC port titled Astrocore, has been announced by the Luma's Workshop community.

Like other decompilation efforts, this project will allow for enhanced performance and graphics rendering and more by bypassing traditional emulation and using native code execution instead.

The upcoming PC port titled AstroCore is supposedly 100% human coded and is showcased in the above video. The project will reportedly release soon through the project's Discord channel.

This just in, we have officially reached 100% decompiled for Super Mario Galaxy 1!

The Luma's Workshop decompilation team will be moving to Super Mario Galaxy 2 after some cleanup work, so wish them the best of luck in the replies! We ask for your utmost patience, as we are putting a lot of care into this project to make sure it's done right.Stay tuned to this channel and the Luma's Workshop discord for more information and updates!

The project will of course require users to supply their own legally dumped ISO to extract the necessary assets which are not included.

Now this is something that I've been waiting for, a decompilation project that's been actually coded by humans, for humans. HOWEVER, I will have to say that AI did have a use in this project:

I find this completely fine. I personally would like to know what they mean by "code cleanup," but otherwise I find this to be incredible. The Knuckles Chaotix and the Sonic the Fighters ones that had more AI influence came out to be worse than emulating the originals

Hey, powered by Aurora! The same compat layer on the Dusklight port! Really cool seeing it on another project like this.

…wouldn’t it be really funny if this got a non vibe-coded Android port with dualscreen support, bringing the old Super Mario Galaxy DS video full-circle?

I think that if AI was used or not, even to generate code, it is fine, as long as it still has review and human hands and that the final product is still well made

why this got released and not sunshine? Timeline matters.Mario bros, mario 64,mario sunshine then galaxy...

Ill wait for your decomp project. Claude shaming will get you nowhere...

Biggest problem I have with AI usage is if it was a cloud based service, thanks to the AI induced shortages increasing prices.

Using such services just contributes to the problem IMO.

Getting better quality off the community for FREE than what we get off nintendo who CHARGE us.

Wonder if itll support handheld pcs that have detachable controls with gyro?

Decomps are one of the coolest things to happen to the retro gaming scene. It wasn't too long ago that n64 decomps were nigh unheard of and now we're getting GameCube and Wii games? Makes me wonder how long we'll actually have to wait for switch decomps

This is the reality of a lot of modern software. If I have a text file with a bunch of text in it then I'm not going to manually add everything into my project, I instead let AI parse it and convert it into a string array. Not using AI for mundane boring stuff like this is just doing yourself a disservice for the sake of not using AI. I assume code cleanup means getting rid of unnecessary casts, hacky gotos, struct definitions and other stuff like that. Basically the same stuff a human would come up with but saving time. As of writing this, every project that states it's being powered by Aurora is of very high quality. And there's so much more to come 😁
