Price increase amount confirmed for the Switch 2 in the UK, set to come into effect September 1st

Though we knew all the way back in May that this was coming, the exact numbers remained a mystery for prospective Nintendo gamers in the UK. If you happen to have been living under a rock, let me fill you in. The price of the Switch 2 is set to go up next month. For those of you in the US, Canada, and EU, the exact amount has been known for a few months now, with the US getting the worst deal looking at percentage increase. You can find a reminder of these increases below:
  • United States: $449.99 ➜ $499.99 (11% increase)
  • Canada: CA$629.99 ➜ CA$679.99 (7% increase)
  • Europe: €469.99 ➜ €499.99 (6% increase)
Nintendo have today confirmed the numbers for those of us in the UK, and they're not quite as bad as I was expecting.
  • United Kingdom: £395.99 ➜ £419.99 (6% increase)
The numbers are relatively in line with what was announced for Canada and Europe, showing a 6% increase. As with other regions, these prices are set to come into effect from the 1st of September, giving you a little under two weeks if you're still on the fence about buying before it gets a touch more expensive.

Wtf and no improvements, of course.
Nintendo pocketing the tariff refunds while keeping hardware prices inflated because we apparently bought them "voluntarily" is insane. They basically forced consumers to pay the tax, sued the government to get their money back, and now their double dipping on both ends?
Peak anti-consumer behavior much?

Sure, but that is an USA problem, not the rest of the world. This price increases here are the result of the last 5 years of "AI" fever.

Meanwhile Nintendo tries to sue and reclaim its tax tariffs while also demanding to courts to reject any counter action against them, by its customers.

Its pure fucking greed per usual from Nintendo. Make cheap shit, over charge for it. Then increase its prices because everyone else is (that actually offer something new).

And then use the legal system to reclaim its increased overheads, while charging it to customers.

Then having the balls to use the legal system to reject customers wanting to claim back their increased cost when buying the already cheap console.

Saying, ohh well, you knew what you were getting when paying for it.

Its just like how actual next gen game prices increased (as they do with the cost of AAA titles increasing).

Nintendo yet again shits out the same recycled crap zelda titles that launched decades prior on its, again, over priced cheap hardware... WiiU.

It gave nothing new, nothing different, nothing that the original didn't have, as emulating it on a PC just proves this fact, but emulating actually gives us superior resolutions and fixes thanks to the community, which Nintendo couldn't be arsed to even try fix.

We get the likes of Ray tracing via emulation, yet no attempt at all on its bullshit so called enhanced versions.

No DLC content included as other games normally would when re relasing their old titles while charging more for it.

Yup

Craptendo shat out the same fucking game, runs at 1080p or docked ai upscale base 1080p to 4k.... something we had, again, decades ago in which those games were approx £30-40.

And they think its worth £70+ just because they added "Enhanced Edition" bullshit to it....

Nintendo just get worse and worse each generation.

Its a cheap child's play thing, yet they charge rip off prices for a system to only get same old recycled shit and everything we already had decades prior.

As far as I'm aware of, there was also a price increase "in USA only" due to Trump's tariffs. However, while these tariffs are seemingly gone, this also affected canadian market (and probably mexican too) since Nintendo's distributors in North America are in USA, meaning that consoles sold in Canada are either shipped to USA before being shipped to Canada, or are produced entirely in USA (I'm not fully aware of their chain of production, but you see my point)

Honesty save 2 to 3 games there is no reason to get a Switch 2

Mario Kart World Online is worse that the previous game and that's something basically everyone agrees to.

The Donkey Kong game is good but unlike Super Mario Odyssey the post game is paywalled DLC.

Pokopia is cute but you have more content in Animal Crossing and if you are not interested in Pokemon you may as well get Dragon Quest Builders 2 instead, more if you can get it used.

The Switch 2 has some good ports but the games are literally cheaper on other consoles or in PC.

We all knew this was coming. Does it suck ... hell yeah. But it's not only Nintendo of course.
All things gaming / pc related are becoming more and more expensive.

But for all the bad crap Nintendo does ... I'll take them over what either Sony and Microsoft are doing and planning with the future of gaming. Yes im a 41 year old physical collector, and while some might not care that much about physical games ... not having physical will have more impact then most of us think of.

I might be going a bit off topic here but;
And throwing AI as the problem is fair, but it's even more the way we all use that.
For example kids nowadays ask anything and everything to an AI with all ups and downs that come with that.

But the main thing that stings the most; Real skill in a lot of professions is becoming a problem.
Pretending to be good at something is fun and all but If chatgpt or the internet is not an option watch them flail like a fish.

Once laws/the bubble popping or anything else is going to happen to AI, watch that impact be a dammening detriment to economy/society etc.

AI in general is great for speeding up research in diseaes, diagnosing things etc. AKA the usefull stuff.
But Little Timmy who used to be flippin burgers at Mc Donalds, who was till in school learning something, now thinks he's a sophisticated mastermind because his AI use made him great (in his eyes but actually decent) at [enter some service here]. Once that bubble pops in any way, Little Timmy can't do diddly squat an will apply for social benefits because he still is at his skill level from before AI ... or worse.

PS: Sorry for going of on that, but im seeeeing that waaaaaaay tooooo much.
