Dekopon - (Mostly) Fullspeed 3DS Emulation on Nintendo Switch

Years ago i estimated vulkan support to be 3-4 man-months of development (just for a poc), I guess that checks out with the knowledge build-up. But back then mesa was way behind, either way, good job. I still remember those dark pre-gl times too...
I wish my time estimates were that accurate, but yeah, about 10-15 hours a day for months. Pre-GL is before me (thankfully).

Am I doing something wrong?

I put my .3ds file into /switch/dekopon/roms/ like Dekopon tells me to, but Library never shows it ("No games found".)

I even thought it was because it was encrypted, so I decrypted it and even put the decryption files in /dekopon/sysdata, and it still isn't being detected.

Very confused.
Hmm.. It should be reading it. Can you put some random 3dsx homebrew in there or try renaming it to .cci to see if it's detected? Does Azahar on PC/Mobile detect the rom?

its a curse too, normally the rule is to take my time estimate x2 :P
Btw if you join up retronx i'll assign you the patreon role if you want, lots of my people are excited for your stuff (and they make excellent testers) and i'll need to coordinate some vk stuff with you potentially, so hit me up if you want

Like the RetroNX Discord? I just joined there if that's what you meant. More testers is always needed because testing on my own isn't always the most thorough.

Tried a picross game and it worked perfectly. Any way to make both screens the same size in vertical mode like in melonDS?
There's no stretch mode because it tends to look pretty bad. The 3DS has asymmetrically sized screens unlike the DS. The closest there is is the sideways switch vertical mode which is almost like what you want and both screens are larger than in the standard view.

Used Azahar PC as a test bed and found out that they were improperly decrypted.

Tried a different method to decrypt and they seem to show up and work now.

It seems to run pretty decently while docked and overclocked (2703/1382/2666) with async shader compilation enabled and even 4x resolution - at least during my short test with The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time.

Few stutters here and here, but that's inherent with async compilation.

I'll try posting posting some videos showing gameplay.

EDIT:

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D:

EDIT EDIT:

Luigi's Mansion:

It should be mentioned that I'm using a super slow micro SD card, so some slowdowns and stutters may be caused by that.

Thank you. It runs very well. However, with Fire Emblem Awakening and Fate, there is significant pop-in and stuttering. While these issues are resolved once the shader cache is generated, the pop-in and stuttering are quite noticeable during the initial playthrough. Overclock settings: 2600/1000/2933.

Any way to get one screen fully displayed while hiding the other?

Thanks, by the way. Pokemon Omega Ruby working great on 2X with some overclocking.

Any way to make screens like this ?

For reference I made some tests to compare with the tico 3DS core :
- NSMB2 and Super Mario 3D Land run better with Dekopon
- Mario Kart 7 runs better on tico

So it seems like both emulators will be complementary.

Is there any in-game emulator menu ? Pressing + and - quits game but I didn't find any hotkeys trigerring a menu, I mean is there a way to savestate for example ?

How can I use the 3DS touchscreen with a controller ? The left right stick didn't seem to trigger a pointer and pressing it just toggles between the different screen layouts.

It's also difficult to tell if you're in the "Library" menu or not, when no games are found.

I was very confused why none of my inputs were responding until I pressed B in one of the other menus and figured it out.

I had the same issue and used the touchscreen until controller inputs were showing.

I've just tested CTGP-7 and it runs better than vanilla MK7 🤷 🤣

Edit - @PalindromicBreadLoaf doesn't seem to work with a forwarder from HOS menu

I can look into getting some sort of menu working while in-game.

This should be a pretty easy one to implement, so maybe before the end of the day today I can have this in and a new build released.

Currently there's no way to use the touchscreen with a controller. Truth-be-told I never thought about that as a use case because I exclusively use my switch in handheld. I'll do my best to get something working with that though. Savestates aren't implemented yet, but are something I'm looking into. As for the menu, do you have any ideas on how to make it more clear where the cursor is? As I said I'm terrible at making working menus, much less something that looks good.

Well the main point in emulating 3DS on Switch for me is being able to play 3DS games on my TV  I do have a real 3DS but I'm not fond of portable gaming at all 😅

As for the menus I'm not sure what to say, the issue of the cursor not showing up seems to be just on startup when there's no games installed, otherwise it looks and works fine so I think it might be some bug instead of an ergonomy issue ? I hope I'm making sense

Thank you for your work !

Personally I think the menu ui is fine, any reason it won't work with a forwarder tho?

There shouldn't be any reason. I always use hbl to launch everything, so I never tested a forwarder, but I don't know why it wouldn't work unless there's something weird forwarders do differently. Does it crash or just return back to the home menu?
