The saved game data is corrupted. Please go to the HOME Menu and refer to the manual for this software.
Hello, I would like some help on solving an issue here with my downloadable version of Pokémon Ultra Sun.
A few days ago, when I opened the game it would start like normal, but now, anytime I try to enter the game, it just shows me this screen saying my save data was corrupted and asks me to read the manual for the game which just tells me to press B+X+Up Button to delete my save data. But I wouldn't like to start things over, you know?
So, I'd like to know if there is a way to play the game as usual and keep my save data or if there's actually no way around. And maybe the reason why this happened.
(Also, I didn't make a FBI or JKSM backup before this error message appeared)
I'd be very grateful if anyone would offer to help me!

You can make a save backup and see if PkHex is able to open it, there may be a way to fix the checksums within PkHex and get rid of the error, but if the save is significantly corrupted there could be other issues.

Most people use Checkpoint nowadays, though JSKM is just as good.

Regardless, even just backing up and restoring the game using Checkpoint (or JKSM) might be enough to solve the problem. But you should probably check the backup in pkhex anyway.

Try to make a backup with Checkpoint and upload it here

Thank you so much for your help! I tried to open a checkpoint backup I made for the game but unfortunately it just gives me this error message.
Is there anything I can do?

I might suggest you post here, as there are people there who know the ins and outs of the save format who might have an idea what's wrong with your save data, try to include as much information as you can when you do: https://projectpokemon.org/home/forums/forum/23-saves-editing-help/

Edit: I tried the tool above and as expected it doesn't work at all, likely because it's only intended to work with files that are too small. I tried to manually trim the save file (both from the start and end) and that still does not resolve the error message in PKHeX. I think I can reasonably say that this will not be an easy fix. If there is a known pattern in the save data that can be used to locate the actual save data in the file (if there is even any save data still there) then somebody who knows the ins and outs of the save format could maybe salvage the save data from the file. But personally, I consider this a lost cause as you won't be able to find someone that is willing to put much effort in for a "maybe". But it's worth a try to post it and see.
It is not as simple as a checksum error in any case, as PKHeX would be able to ignore and fix checksum errors, but it isn't able to recognize the file at all even when it's trimmed to the right size. At best, there is probably significant corruption, at worst the entire file is garbage data and nothing remains of your save file.

Ahh, I kept forgetting how to find this.

Behold, the Partial Savefile Fix Tool:
Thank you, once again for your help.
"Unhandled exception has occured in your application", it gave me an error and made a BAK file on the same folder as my backup's. What should I do about that?

This is very unclear. Did you get that error as soon as you opened the application, or only after you tried to open your save file?

Regardless, it seems M. Jdbye has exhaustively determined it will be of no help.

Can you dump the save file a second time?
In order to be sure that the bigger save file issue is part of the initial problem and not a "twice-corrupted" dump.

Hey Jdbye. I went on that forum you suggested me and fortunately, a kind person actually helped me recover my save file! Thank you so much for helping me! Best regards.

So... What did you learn? What went wrong? What did they do? Please, help us and future readers to benefit from your experience.

Well, I am sorry but I don't really know exactly what I did wrong, but it was probably caused by interrupting the saving process, which lead into this message showing up. I also know that according to the instruction manual for the game this may also occur due to ejecting the SD card or the game cartidge from the system.
The user who helped me told me that they got it to load on PKHex after rearranging some data in the backup file I attached there and also by trimming junk written at the end of it, so if anyone that is also dealing with this problem, you can try doing this.

Edit: I don't actually think I interrupted the saving process of the game, I might've done something else, because I always wait for the game to save before putting my 3ds on sleep mode, and definitively not because I ejected the SD card because I rarely take it off from my 3ds, so the cause for this to happen is still unknown to me.

Can you link the explanation that helped you recover your save? What does "rearranging some data in the backup file" actually mean? I am having the same problem and would love help.

Hey @tuzinpq is your Pokemon ultra sun save file still corrupted? If so please send it to me for repairs I’d be more than happy to fix the corruption for you?

If you bothered to read beyond the first post of the thread, you would have your answer, sir.
Yeah I just noticed that user already solved their problem. Thanks a lot for the heads up though.😁😅
