Grand Theft Auto VI pre orders go live tomorrow, physical release limited to code in box

The delays may be behind us, but the news isn't all good for Grand Theft Auto VI. Rockstar have today announced that pre-orders for the game will go live tomorrow, on the 25th of June. Those who pre-order will get the Vintage Vice City Pack, a small throwback to one of their older titles. With the game launching on the 19th of November, fans will be able to start their pre-loads a full week early to ensure there's enough time to get things ready. So what's the bad news here? As you've probably seen from the title, there's no true physical release planned for the game. The retail version will instead feature a code in the box, being available to buy at the same time as pre-loads going live.

Rockstar also announced an Ultimate Edition for the game, throwing in an assortment of "vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action" for those willing to spend big. Barring further delays, the game will be available to play on the 19th of November.

No physical disc?! Suddenly the Game Key Cards don't sound too bad...

Yeah, that's always been their one positive to is at least you can get some semblance of ownership.

The only upside to CiaB is there's a chance the price will get cheaper, quicker than DD alone.

Disclaimer: I’m genuinely happy for all the people who’ve been dreaming of this game’s arrival. This is where I’d shout out Cranesbill, but, anyway.

That having been said, the overlap in the Venn diagram of ‘people who hate digital-only’ and ‘people who would sell their firstborn to get their hands on GTA 6’ is going to be incredibly fucking funny to watch.

Yeesh, $80+ for a code? How long until they no longer even bother with the box? Guarantee you that some dumb executive thought the inability to resell would ensure more sales, as if hundreds of millions weren't enough for GTA V already.
No, it's simply cheaper to put a code on a piece of paper in the box than it is to buy and burn a disk. The no reselling is just a bonus.

What about people who love digital only but hate GTA 6?

Worst is this special edition shit, which is just cosmetic or stuff which is already ingame... Just unlocked if you pay extra... I know other games do this since years, but sad that Rockstar one of my fav devs starting this shit too.
It's apparently five whole stores including clothing and the hair salon locked behind the ultimate edition. Technically just cosmetic stuff, but a lot of it, and all things that were in the base single-player content for previous entries.

this is one of the worst details I've heard about this game and why I won't be buying it. I'll just borrow a friends PS5 Pro who has purchased it and play it quickly. I am not going to support them and will play it for free by trading up with a friend for a couple weeks.
