Calling it a "scam" is the wrong term. Scams are meant to defraud or mislead consumers. Collection of data isn't a scam, but a huge privacy concern for what they do with the data depending on what it contains.

I wish we had laws banning unauthorized data collecting. Then we could just pay for these games.

We do not even need companies to do tasks that requires them, make them all go away. Thank god we have open-source to self-host just about anything on our own, and only retain the data we have.
