I just want switch 2 to boot linux. Im not fan of nintendo games, but switch is at least decent piece of hardware that is able to emulate game systems that i want to play. I would love to run games from my steam library on switch.

Just.... Get a Steam Deck or any other PC handheld that are actually made to run PC games. You can get a simple Rog Ally for under 500€, just get that.

I honestly do not believe anyone would want a Switch 2 just to..... Run Linux in order to "emulate" games.

Well, the GPU in the Switch 2 seems like a good reason. The power consumption is also lower, so I can understand why people are interested. Most Steam Deck-like handhelds are based on x86 hardware with AMD GPUs, while the Switch 2 uses an Nvidia infrastructure, which is ahead of AMD in some areas

While I can't comment on which architecture performs best for gaming, most people who want the Switch 2 hacked want it hacked for piracy. You're likely waiting years before you can boot Linux on the Switch 2 and emulate older systems. As mentioned above, those who just want a portable emulator are better off just buying a ROG Ally. It will emulate almost any system out the box and has a better screen than the Switch 2.

Im also in the boot Linux camp. I have devices for my other stuff and a PC handheld, but PC handhelds are not very portable or power efficient. I can but first party games no problem, but I'm waiting for moonlight and steam

They removed it because a hacker found an exploit using it to achieve full control over the os. It then became a vulnerability anyone could have used. So Sony removed the feature. They may have planned to remove it from the start, but hackers showing interest in it hastened their decision

The game was delisted before it was possible to make dumps on the PS4, as it's a digital game. The game too sucks so bad that I doubt anyone kept a copy of it long enough to when the PS4 could be hacked.
This isn't lost media. It's media that should not exist in the first place

True archivist would have kept a PS4 system with the game installed from all those years, as well as buy each game that came along. If you want preservation, then keep multiple console with storage only for buying and downloading games, storing them for whenever you are able to dump them in future. That could have saved that game
Couldnt that PS4 game still be archived by anyone who bought the game? Like they didnt remove it from people's libraries did they?

Rocknix on the Switch 2 could go hard. I bet the Switch 2 competes with a lot of the high end Android handhelds in raw performance. Being able to emulate pretty much everything including a lot of PC games without needing a separate device for it is rather appealing.

Sounds cool in theory unitl you realize
Switch 2 is a custom Nvidia ARM APU with a custom software stack

While arm on Linux exists you run into some issues that could kill performance.
X86 to ARM Translation is slow and power inefficient, While Valve is working on FEX for the steam frame even devs that have it says you lose about 20-30% of CPU performance if not more of the performance in games. Your better hope the things you want to do have an existing ARM build thats really good. This is also not accounting for any additional overhead added by Proton for non native linux games.

You also run the 2nd issue, Reverese engineering and reimplementing a custom driver stack for the hodge podge of a GPU nvidia stuffed in the switch 2,

With zero documentation about the Switch 2's GPU available, Linux/Steam on Switch 2 would be a shitshow (Linux on Switch 1 uses official, hardware-accelerated Nvidia GPU drivers). Not that it matters since Linux will never boot on this unhackable handheld.

And just to be clear, I want it hacked, an emulator written, and XCI's of all S2 games ASAP as I've been 🏴‍☠️flying the flag🏴‍☠️ since my Amiga days in the Awesome80s. I'm a realist and know it is not going to happen.
