I know it's an aging system. But this machine played Sonic Unleashed, Asura's Wrath, Ratchet & Clank A Crack In Time, and Katamari games all with no issue. The R&C was even just earlier this year.

But I booted up the digital PS2 Classic for this game (legally purchased, not emulated except where supported directly by Sony) and 20 minutes in (mind you the first 10 was cut scenes) my PS3 suddenly gives the 3-beep warning and shuts down.

I do have a hypothesis, but it's not something I'm sure of. The cutscenes going on as long as they do could be an issue, if they are straining the system.

I do notice that when coming in and out of PS2 games, my system loses output for a second and turns off the controller (implying it's rebooting some things).

I also see that it currently displays a HUD on top of the normal PS Button Menu that gives me CELL/RSX temps and FPS but mutes game audio (can still see game underneath). Obviously that extra hud wasn't there in OFW. Same HUD also says SLUS-21344 (I believe game ID), Config file revision: 16,040, build r17495-main-rel.

This has me wondering if the CFW has overridden the regular PS2 processes for normal digital releases with its own emulation process.

These are all just details and hypothesi. I do see temps climbing a bit (I'm rerunning the same scenario but I skipped the opening cutscenes). Currently CELL 65, RSX 59, FPS 30.

So it does seem likely it was overheat and not hardware failure, as both are climbing to that 69 threshold. But I'm wondering if this is normal for this game and/or if there's anything I can do to mitigate the issue or resort to finding other methods to play this.
