Yoshi and the Mysterious Book gets new trailer along with release date

Originally marked for a Spring 2026 release date, the upcoming Switch 2 title Yoshi and the Mysterious Book today received a new trailer, locking it in for a May 21st release date. The trailer takes a look at the a creature in the game, showing its abilities and how Yoshi can use it to navigate the environment. Each creature found can be named by the player, with name suggestions also available for those less creative.

I dunno, if this is aimed towards young children, I'm happy that's still a market.
Tbh, though most of the games are beautiful, I've only ever really liked Yoshi's Wooly World, Touch 'N' Go and Story, and only one of those games is objectively good.

I think the difficulty and more importantly SLOWNESS of 100%ing the classic games is a real flaw and differentiating it from the ramp up difficulty of Mario (which can also provide exploration) is important.

For adults like us, there are so many indie 2D platformers out there that reward exploration, what have we lost? Only three other games in the decade long series match the originals mechanics and no one here agrees on their quality as it is.

It's like that Peach game, not for you. And let's be honest, Super Princess Peach is also only a hidden gem cos of its graphics and the borrowed but easier gameplay of Yoshi. And the fact it was hidden says all you need to know about how THAT sold.

The gameplay footage looks like it's the first part of the first level of the game, things might ramp up as the game progresses. But it looks like it will be a puzzle platformer (where you need to figure out how to use the abilities and effects of different creatures to unlock a path forward) and not a fast and precise action platformer. But who knows, maybe they will let you unlock some wild difficulty setting at some point.

Yes, I really liked the game as a kid

Now I really struggle to go back to it, but I liked doing all the different stages and unlocking white and black yoshi

But I can accept it's fundamentally a flawed game
Only God can judge Yoshi's Story.

Fair, but give us options then. Make a default difficulty and a more skilled difficulty. Then everybody can be happy.
Haven't there always been options..? Even Yoshi's Story is excruciating if you're trying to do the thirty-melons in each stage. (The problem is that the game is so weirdly designed that there's little incentive for doing so.)

That I do remember, and kinda loved as it was tricky for sure :)
But looking past Yoshi's Story ... I cant tell of something that makes Yoshi games harder.
I'm also not saying give us Kaizo Yoshi all around but if a is only considered baby easy all round ... that is not a great thing either. Relatively the newer Yoshi games get harder the further you get ... but its marginal really.

Last one was so laughably ez I've cried recalling what a decent challenge SNES game was. nintendo today has nor balls nor teeth

I think you just have the wrong expectation. Epic Yarn derivatives (yes, I consider the modern Yoshi games as Epic Yarn derivatives) are easy as they are targeted to children. The cutesy art style is also a huge giveaway.

It seems Nintendo are running out of good ideas for Yoshi games and this one doesn’t look at all appealing. You would of thought by now Nintendo would of moved onto Yoshi 3D Sandbox titles as a different approach similar to what they did with Donkey Kong Bananza

I’ve looked into my crystal ball and Nintendolife are saying it’s a 7/10 in the review
I was close the review on Nintendolife got a “6/10 Not Bad” and reading the review it doesn’t sound good and I pre-ordered it I would like a refund please. What conned me I saw the new Yoshi game was over 20gb in size so I thought this is going to be some big huge Yoshi fun but the review says it’s short so why is it over 20gbs

Thanks I’ve only read the Nintendolife review and I do know from past experience they do get ranty and give lower scores just because the test game didn’t arrive on time I will have a look at others. I do hope it’s good I luv a Yoshi game I always get that old skool snes Super Mario World vibe from them

I was expecting a demo, but nothing. Hopefully it's worth it and I've got it on the way.

That'll be my third physical Switch 2 game. 😄

Played the first chapter, well, it's very "cosy" I didn't see any enemies nor lost any health bars, but who knows if it changes as the story progresses.

The cutscenes look nice.

I've been trying to get into it but my first impressions... It's pretty boring.

The free Pokemon game on Switch 2 on the other hand is quite addictive. 😅
