Star Fox 64 remake for the Switch 2 announced in surprise Nintendo Direct

Airing last night with very little in the way of warning, a brand new Nintendo Direct was aired. Running for 15 minutes in total, it took a moment to celebrate the success of the Super Mario Galaxy Movie before swiftly announcing a brand new Star Fox game for the Switch 2. In the presentation we got a glimpse of the new game's art style, which appears to be quite a leap from the previous Wii U release, along with a breakdown of characters, the Arwing controls, the campaign, and a whole bunch more.

You can check out the full Nintendo Direct in the video above. The game is available to pre-order now, with it set to cost £41.99 digitally and launch on the 25th of June. Physical pre-orders are not yet live, though the revealed box art does at least seem to confirm that it will not be a Game Key Card release.

Why are they remaking this game for the 35175916579156179561795613976 time. When will they learn that Star Fox was nothing more than a fancy tech demo, other rail shooters have already surpassed it by a huge margin.

Also, the art style genuinely looks disgusting, it reminds me of those early 2010's hyper-realistic live action adaptations of cartoon characters we would see coming from Hollywood movies, it will age like milk compared to Star Fox Zero or even 64 itself (which totally embraced the low-poly style, even for the promotional art).
i guess they look to square reselling the same dragon quest every other year or something

From the creators of excuses like "We can't think of anything original to do with F-Zero" Nintendo presents: A second remake of the first (out of two) Star Fox reboot.

I'm a bit disappointed Nintendo won't give us an improved Star Fox Zero with better controls. That game really needed it and I've played Star Fox 64's levels so many times already.

Looking forward to online multiplayer and the new cutscenes though. Hopefully Nintendo might revive the series if it sells well.

Another SF64 Remake? We had it on the 3DS and the Wii U (with awful motion controls).

The realistic graphics look really ugly, but I might pick it up.

And to the surprise of no one Nintendo fanboys are hyped calling it "Nintendo's greatest hits of remakes" so you're saying you just bought a new console just to play remakes... Wtf.

In a series where half the games are already retellings of the first game, releasing another one will definite definitely deter some fans that already played one of the "first games".

I already played Starwing, Lylat Wars and Zero. Will I play it for a forth time? Maybe with a friend in co-op.
The versus multiplayer looks pretty interesting this time. You're not just flying in circles and shooting homing shots.
Starwing is just the PAL release name for Star Fox SNES while Lylat Wars is Star Fox 64...

Isn't Star Fox 64 and Star Fox Zero practically the same thing with Zero being a remake with shitty controls?

I'm very excited for this. Despite what other people think I like the new art style. Seeing the same game remade yet again is less exciting but at the same time Star Fox 64 is the best in the series. If you prefer the Nintendo 64 art style you should check out the HD texture pack Lylat Reloaded.

Not a single 2, 4 or 8. What do you have against even numbers?

Star Fox 64 and Star Fox Zero are both reboots of Star Fox.
I like some things Zero did but I didn't finish it due to shitty controls. I wish they'd make a port/remake of Zero with Star Fox 64 style controls, since at least it's a fresh take, which a lot of people haven't played and has better sequel potential.

How many times can they make the same game? They really don't know what to do with the Star Fox series story wise do they?

Nintendo has struggled to make a good starfox since 64. It being basically the perfect starfox experience I think it makes the most sense to revitalize the franchise. If this sells well they can get experimental again.

Honestly what I really want from the Star Fox series is a roguelike entry. The gameplay has always been fine enough. Give us a random star system to venture through, upgrades to the Arwing throughout that you can pick from. It feels like that kind of thing would blend well with the base Star Fox 64 arcadey vibe.
Did you just pitch an FTL x Star Fox love child? Because that sounds dope.

A lot of people are just fans of Starfox 64 instead of being an actual Starfox fans. Any game outside of 64 sold like shit beside the original (which is an early version of 64). Right now, Nintendo is fishing new fans. If it doesn't work, prepare for it to get shelved again for another 2 generations.

Not gonna lie. I ordered a.... refurbished Switch 2 because of this game. Just because I'm in "fuck you" mode with Nintendo, doesn't mean I'm not able to play their games at a lower price without funding that company 🤪.

... Now to bide my time and wait for used copies. 🤣
Now this is the way.
