Strange then that it's currently outperforming the original switch sales in the US....

I dont know any of the 9 people like me who had a day 1 switch who now dont have a switch 2....and I loved DK Bonanza and the upgrades for both Zeldas as well as the new Resi.....

I think really it couldnt have done any better especially in the current economic climate with Ram prices / tariffs etc and even companies like Sony / MS and Valve have to delay products or jack them up....

I think when we talk about games to draw customers in we should look more at the (lack of) "exclusives" for the so-called next gen stuff - now there is a bin fire.....

no its not outperforming the original switch sales in the US. the article you linked is global sales which includes japan. every article ive seen points to strong japanese sales which is yakuza insider trading basically.

show me US sales numbers. ive seen a couple that show the switch 2 is in trouble.

The least you could do is backup your claim with links to those sources you say exist.

What dip? Switch 1 launched in March, while Switch 2 launched in June. A 3 month gap, meaning Switch 2's holiday season came earlier, hence the jump is earlier on the chart.

All you've done here is proved you were false about Switch 2 "not doing well" when it's still keeping pace with the 2nd-fastest selling console of all time.

Let it be known, they are sourcing an article from Bloomberg, written by Takashi Mochizuki, notorious for making shit up regarding Nintendo and Sony. Nintendo even called them out on a previous article.

what about forbes with direct nintendo quotes?

https://www.forbes.com/sites/paulta...r-switch-2-sales-price-changes-missing-games/

the days of spin are almost over. there are loyal nintendo fanboys that will buy about anything nintendo comes out with. that is a successful demographic that can keep them afloat but it cant put them anywhere near the 100m lifetime sales numbers. the switch 2 wont break those numbers. im not saying that other consoles are doing better either. the gaming industry is going downhill and all consoles are seeing the downfall.

id add that mister fpga has more momentum right now than the switch 2. retro gaming is going to outperform switch 2.

That's what you've been doing this entire time, and keep jumping to different things when you get proven wrong. Nintendo saying "overseas sales were slightly weaker than our expectations" at no point correlates to your "not doing that well at all". The fact is, they had increased their fiscal year forecast long before this, so dipping slightly with the west still means they are still doing exceptionally well.

And when we have both Sony and MS increasing the prices of their platforms, that's just making Switch 2 more enticing.

id add that mister fpga has more momentum right now than the switch 2. retro gaming is going to outperform switch 2.
Oh my gosh, what a crackpot!

It's already losing its momentum, the only people that bought one were the hardcore fans so without any essential games it's just gonna keep slipping

Where the heck did you hear that it's losing momentum. The past week, half my X explore feed is everyone and their mother buying a switch 2. I don't even follow any of them.
Moreover, hardware sales in March was better than any current console.

The switch 2 sold more than the switch 1 in it's first 10 months, and for the switch 1, that 10 months ends in the last day of December, so right at the end of the holidays. So, after both consoles have had their first full holiday season, which the switch had both Mario odyssey and BOTW, games that you would most likely term as essential, the switch 2 still beat the switch one, "with no good exclusives" as you'd say.
Oh, you said it's the fan boys buying the switch 2? I guess all 20million fanboys rushed to buy the console and now there are no more fanboys to give Nintendo their money.

You said the same shit 3 months ago https://gbatemp.net/threads/the-future-of-switch-2-success-or-failure.674298/post-10801476 and you've been proven wrong quite well. What do you have to say now?

the original switch was much harder to get than a switch 2 because of production limitation early on. it sold out everywhere early on and was very tough to get in stock during the holidays.

the switch 2 is sitting on shelves pretty much at every place that sells them not selling out and readily available for people to buy. thats one of the reasons nintendo has slowed production on them. they expected higher numbers but arent seeing those higher numbers. there are people that are fanboys that have multiple switch 2's already.

i bought a switch 1 on release day and got my second almost a year later right because it was so tough to find in stock.

numbers dont always tell the total story early on. if you want to rig stats to put them on your side you can early on in almost any launch if you have dedicated fanbase. the switch2 is still 80million units away from breaking 100m and your already trying to give them the pat on the back for reaching the true phenomenal numbers when the race isnt even 1/5th the way completed. its like a sprinter running a marathon. you can cheer him on as he is way ahead of the marathon runner in the first mile but lets get to 10miles and see where things are at.

A product in ample supply on store shelves while having reports of high unprecedented sales numbers means the stores restock quickly due to ample supply, not that it isn't selling. We've known this since the beginning. Geez, you people have absolutely no concept of how these things work. The only concept you have is you don't like this success Nintendo is having, and have to make stuff up to justify your position.

This thread was about the idea that Switch 2 would be only as successful as Wii U, likely with the assumption that it would fall under the same situation coming from a successful platform like it's some pattern (like from Wii -> Wii U). That didn't happen. We knew that the moment the Switch 2 launched, and we saw it had exceeded Wii U's lifetime sales after roughly 7 months. It took Switch 1 at least 2 months more to do that. "Not doing well" my ass. What we have here since the making of this thread are stragglers who simply won't accept reality because the reality shows Nintendo doing very well. And it's very possible for Switch 2 to push forward even more thanks to the numerous events happening right now.

Among the recent consoles excluding the Series S, the Switch 2 is the cheapest console available, able to work as both a home console and a portable console, one the big reasons for Switch 1's popularity. It's gaining 3rd-party favor with having a smaller power gap against the others compared to the Switch 1 at its time, and even trades blows with Series S, a platform that any dev working on Series X must make a version for. The AI situation is not doing any favors with the other companies looking towards their next-gen systems.

I do get what your saying but na, the wii u was a testing ground for the switch.

They fixed the problems from wii u and then some for the switch and the backwards compatibility on wii u (vWii) was painfully slow and laborious... This is a step in the right direction for the hardware as your switch carts will just boot, no booting to switch 1 mode I would imagine.

So, no... I personally think it will be more successful and if they get the games right then definitely it will be as you will have two generations titles readily available.
I do wish switch had one of the best wiiu features though that didn’t work out for the wiiu because I guess gamepad connectivity, the gamepad for some games was actually used for the games not just a second screen. Being like that I called the wiiu a console version of the ds. In a way because of this, as much as like the switch, it became half of what the wiiu was because Nintendo couldn’t make that feature work.

I think the Switch 2 will have the same success as the Wii U. That is to say, it will have little success. It feels like it is more of the same, perhaps with some more features (gimmick) or some power improvement to justify its price and encourage its purchase.

It seems that Nintendo is still lazy about NOT making new games for Switch and porting those for Wii U. They have also been lazy in branding. Switch 2 and run. Job done. Law of least effort.

Oh well. Maybe it's just a temporary name. Or an intermediate console and then they will release a better one. But if this is Nintendo's definitive bet for the next 7-8 years, I think they're not going to do very well (And I'm glad, honestly, they haven't worked hard at all, on the previous console they made a Wii U glue cutter and they came out successful)

One way or the other. What makes a console worth it are its games. If Nintendo releases good games for the Switch 2, for me the console will have been worth it (even if it was a commercial failure) but if they continue with this dynamic of repeating and porting games, I will not see the point in buying it (even if it is a success commercial).

17 January of 2025, and still thinks the original Switch was not worth it.

Please do not take this as a comment of sterile hatred towards Nintendo. It's just my point of view, my opinion.

Thank you!
I wonder if 🤡/troll this feels any regret for saying such absolute nonsense about: the winner of this generation (the Switch: the best-selling console of all-time), and the fastest selling game machine of all-time (the Switch 2)?

🤣 No, I guess this troll has only doubled-down on dumbness. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him think.

It may be time to close this thread because it is quite clear that he is only here to troll and spew nonsense.

back with your hateful language bringing nothing to a civilized debate lol. i can respect discostewSM even though we dont have the same opinion. but you dont bring anything to the conversation but hatred. what a sad world you must live in where all you can do is spew hatred and vitrol.

Sorry I hadn't read the whole thread, but how did we move the goal post from "Will Switch 2 blow the Wii U out of water or not?" to "Will Switch 2 compete against the soon-to-be best selling console of all time?"

Reading through all the posts in this thread I've simply come to realize its just like all those Nintendo hate channels on Youtube. Someone acting like they are a Nintendo fan but constantly arguing with skewed narratives to try and talk about them failing to gather attention. Curious how they will try and turn Nintendo's financial report coming a few days from now into something to bring anger and attention. But yeah it already basically outselling Wii U lifetime sales is amazing.

Here's the thing. One could argue that Switch 1 could have had a bigger launch, but couldn't due to limited supply. That in no way affects the success of the Switch 2, like saying Switch 2 would have been a failure had Switch 1 sold more around 7-8 years ago. It just makes no sense, but putting into perspective, the situation revolving around the US, with tariffs, and how folks are struggling with even some of the more basic necessities, one could argue that if this was not the case, even more Switch 2 units could have been sold because folks would have more money available to them to buy things they want. This past holiday season demonstrated that it isn't just a Nintendo issue, as all console and general hardware sales were down at their lowest since 1995, when such reporting began. That is a problem with the current economic sphere, not because of any one company.

Never the less, Nintendo had increased their FY forecast as they were seeing it being surpassed. In no way is Switch 2 doing bad. It is doing better than Nintendo initially expected, and in general, is one of the fastest-selling consoles of all time in its first year.

Its a done deal here guys - you can spin it however you like but total year on year sales are the proof and saying its not selling as well as it it was in papa new guinea proves zilch....

I will be back in a year and we will see how much better again it will be doing by then with the rivals complete mess and hardware issues helping N even more....

I heard it didn't do too well on the McDonald Islands.

And previously in this thread "numbers dont always tell the total story early on." - Numbers TELL the whole story - everything else is just opinion.

without hacks Switch 2 topics became laziest boring flood themes worse than talking about your EX
