Tutorial  Updated

PS3 system update 4.92 is available now, should i update? a guide for CFW and hen

this guide will work for all future PS3 updates, not only for 4.92

first of all, If You don't play online or use the store, DO NOT UPDATE. It brings NOTHING new besides probably new keys for BD-Video or certs. There will be no new games for PS3 so no new keys related to it. Update is pointless in such case.

----------------------------------------------------

"but if i want to still play online?"

CFW --> DON'T UPDATE!!! wait for evilnat to update or switch to DEX
(its recommended you wait for evilnat to get updated)

hen --> DON'T UPDATE!!! you can use the updatelist.txt method or wait for the new hen update
(it's recommendex you wait for hen to get updated)

----------------------------------------------------

"the CFW im using OR hen got an update, how do i update?"

CFW --> Download the CFW update and unzip it. Put the PS3 folder from the zip onto a fat32 formatted USB stick. Put that usb into your PS3 and turn it on, go to system update and update from storage device. If you did it right and your stick is formatted right, it will find the update and update for you. That's it.

(you can also try this video guide by MrMario2011 on YouTube for more details)

hen --> download the latest pkg for your hfw version from https://www.ps3xploit.me (the new official site) and install it. reboot, enable hen, done!

you can see the changelog at https://github.com/PS3Xploit/PS3HEN below the file list.

All PS2 modes run as a separate lv2 kernel, so:

"Impossible" on HEN because without a lv1 exploit you can't load a modified kernel
Theoretically possible on CFW but nobody has put in the possibly very significant effort to make ps2_netemu (and the other 2 for consoles with PS2 hardware) support USB mass storage, possibly common filesystems, etc

All to run PS2 software on something hotter, louder, less compatible, and with worse analog video flexibility than a real PS2...

how do i know if my ps3 uses a HEN version or not
if it uses HEN you would see "enable HEN" on ur XMB like this

also how do i know if my ps3 is dex or pex or cex , i can't tell
if you are using a custom firmware, you probably have a folder called "custom firmware tools" in the network section in ur XMB, open it

go to Cobra tools --> Cobra information
and click it

it should tell u if ur Cex or Dex

Pex is basically both, it let you switch between Cex and Dex, to check if ur Pex, Got to back to Custom firmware Tools again

look for CEX2DEX Tools, open it and go all the way down and press "Show information"

if you can convert between Cex and Dex, ur on Pex

facts , the closest thing to be emulating on console in a good way is the ps4 through classic emulator

Not possible on CFW either. The reason is that when the PS2 emulator is running, the USB ports are emulating the PS2's USB ports so they're not available for the kernel itself.
It's possible to install OPL and use it to load games from USB like you'd do on a real PS2, but this will only work on hardware BC models. The reason is that the software emulator has dozen of configuration options and each game has a specific config file. If you use OPL you won't get the config file for the specific game. Also mind that that when the PS2 emulator is running, the USB ports are limited to USB 1.1, which is painfully slow, and is the main reason why playing games from USB on a real PS2 is also not a fun experience.

The tool that jailbreaks consoles currently on OFW above 3.55 so that CFW can be installed.
if ur PS3 is already on CFW and u wanted to update it, u can just update the CFW im pretty sure ^_^

Followed Modded Warfare's video tutorial and it was very easy, I almost didn't need to do anything. Sweet.

Installed 4.93 HEN on a Super Slim.

I really dig the XMB menu definitely way more than what PS5 has.
