Tutorial  Updated

PS3 system update 4.92 is available now, should i update? a guide for CFW and hen

first of all, If You don't play online or use the store, DO NOT UPDATE. It brings NOTHING new besides probably new keys for BD-Video or certs. There will be no new games for PS3 so no new keys related to it. Update is pointless in such case.

----------------------------------------------------

"but if i want to still play online?"

CFW --> DON'T UPDATE!!! wait for evilnat 4.92 or switch to DEX
(its recommended you wait for evilnat to get updated)

hen --> DON'T UPDATE!!! you can use the updatelist.txt method or wait for the new hen update
(it's recommendex you wait for hen to get updated)

----------------------------------------------------

"the CFW im using OR hen got an update, how do i update?"

CFW --> Download the CFW update and unzip it. Put the PS3 folder from the zip onto a fat32 formatted USB stick. Put that usb into your PS3 and turn it on, go to system update and update from storage device. If you did it right and your stick is formatted right, it will find the update and update for you. That's it.

(you can also try this video guide by MrMario2011 on YouTube for more details)

hen --> download the latest pkg for your hfw version from https://www.ps3xploit.me (the new official site) and install it. reboot, enable hen, done!

you can see the changelog at https://github.com/PS3Xploit/PS3HEN below the file list.

what does it even update ?
it’s a new encryption key for the Blu-Ray Player

"Updates of this sort are an annual occurrence, as the Advanced Access Content System (AACS) encryption key regularly expires - it’s a copyright-protection technology that requires a key to be set on both the disc and the console in order to play new films.

the key also exists on PS4 and PS5, but according to the console manuals, the encryption key is automatically renewed, but on PS3 it must be done in a system update."

The thing with software PS2 emulation is that the temps on non BC will be high unless adjusting the fan speeds, making most PS3's sound like B-52 at liftoff on sane and safe temp levels.

And do note that the regular temperature setting are not working on PS2 softemu, so the PS2 (constant speed) setting should be adjusted instead.

So the silver lining has a cloud (IMNSHO).

Why not? Try running the games on Evilnat and see for yourself.

i don't even know what firmware i have on my ps3 or what version tbh , i'm the biggest noob when it comes to ps3 modding
Navigate to the 'Settings' section (the one with a briefcase icon), then go to "System Settings" > "System Information." Under 'System Software' it'll tell you what firmware is installed on the console. If custom firmware is not on your console, then do set this up and backup your NAND; otherwise, if you are using an older CFW (i.e., Evilnat 4.91) then continue from there.

To update Evilnat or any custom firmware, create a folder on the root of your USB called "PS3." Inside that folder, create another folder named "UPDATE." Drag-and-drop the CFW update named "PS3UPDAT.PUP" inside of the "UPDATE" folder. Plug in the USB into your PS3, then perform a system update via USB.
