I can see someone paying for one month to enjoy a new $60-70 game and then cancelling or playing enough games to recoup the cost of the yearly subscription, but hardly anyone does that.
And that, my friend, is the beauty of subscriptions...to a big corporation, at least.

90%+ of the population are just too damn lazy to cancel or price compare.

For YEARS I used to cry every month when I paid my internet bill, because there was NO competition. The day Mint sent me an email their internet was available in my area, BAM! I canceled my $90+ cable internet and got $30 a month Minternet (which is just actually a leased T-Mobile line, but I digress...).

I mean yeah there are some evil businesses that won't let you cancel without jumping through 14 hoops but is $200 a year [or whatever GP costs] not worth that? How much are these people making?

When the price doubled it wasn't worth it anymore for the odd game id actually play on gamepass. Already own most of this list anyways, so doesn't seem like in missing out on much (yet).

Don't people know about Firefox and uBlock Origin?

More people know. Which means Google increases their anti-uBlock measures.

First, it was the riddance of Manifest v2, which forced uBlock to lag in the fight against Google ads. Then it was ads embedded directly inside the videos so adblockers can't stop them by blocking the ad source. And now it's "safety measures" that block you after some videos because 'You need to disable your adblocker for your safety if you want to keep watching Youtube videos", plus constant file shuffling in the background so private readers such as Freetube are unuseable 1/5th of the time or have to face drawbacks such as longer times between and before videos.
