Hi, I collaborated on the original RGC2 Translation Patch, specifically on the graphical side of it alongside SubnetPie, Pix3l, and snapman, all led by Aaron Chmielowiec on these very same forums.

Sheesh, can't believe that was 10 years ago!

I did some of the translated game logos, the GameFan magazines, and a bunch of other texts displayed as images in the game, including those that were required to be pixel art.
Still have all the assets I made, and most can easily be scaled to the new resolution on the Switch port. I don't think Aaron would mind if we use them for a new translation. ;)

If anyone wants to work on a Retro Game Challenge 1+2 Replay translation patch please let me know, I can handle anything graphics related (raster, vector, & pixel), as long as I'm provided the original graphics in a common format, so that I can work on top of them. I don't have much, if any experience in actual rom-hacking/programming.

I have no technical skills to offer, just replying in support. I played the prior translation and it was incredible. I contributed some bug reports for that one.

I'd love to see a new translation and would play test again, though I know that's not offering much.

Yeah! Checking the old posts you can clearly see how the discussion and support pushed the project towards its final result, that's pretty cool to see. It was even cooler to experience it! Aaron did a fantastic job as a lead.

I'm hoping someone else with the same passion for the games steps up, or that at least a publisher takes on the project (so we don't have to do it ourselves, hah!).

Thank you all :) If you happen to know anyone who might be interested in tackling this, please point them to this thread.
Maybe we can get the ball rolling!

I was taking a look at this out of curiosity and noticed that the entire games seems to be coded in Unity, meaning that every single file is in an asset bundle rather then any sort of proprietary format. It may make it easier to crack into the files and decompile them to get the resources from the game itself. I'll update with more info as time goes on.

update: holy fuckballs the entirety of the code is available via AssetRipper. It also includes the fonts as well as every texture used in the game, so editing this should be insanely simple for a language project. Most of the manual files are just .pngs anyways and they can most likely be easily edited and recompiled back into unity files for use in a ROMfs patch.
