A controller for your thoughts - win a free controller!

conbanner.jpg

It's around that time of the year I try to be a more productive person, and with that comes the question of where that productivity should be directed. Courtesy of @AKNES I have a controller to give away, with the winner being able to pick from 8BitDo's Ultimate 2C (Bluetooth or Wireless), GuliKit's ES Pro, Elves 2, or Elves 2 Pro, or EasySMX's D05. On top of this, the administration have also decided to give three lucky runner ups a year of GBAtemp patronage, complete with ad-free perks! So what am I asking of you for a chance to win any of these lovely things?

The criteria is simple. You'll need to have been a member before this thread went live. If you're reading this as a lurker, I encourage you to sign up and join in with the larger community. You might not be able to join this giveaway, but there'll be more down the line. For those already here though, you'll just need to reply to this thread, and your reply will need the following information:
  • An upcoming game you're looking forward to
  • Your favourite ROM hack
  • A cool bit of gaming tech you own or are interested in
If you can manage that much, you'll have your shot at the prizes! It might all seem a bit random, but it's handy to check in every so often to see where interests currently lie. If we see there's big interest in a given game, we might go more out of our way to post smaller updates or trailers as they release. If a ROM hack has a bunch of recommendations, we might take a bit of time to feature or review it. It's all good to know.

You'll have a week to enter, with entries closing Friday the 27th of March at 8pm in the UK. I'll pop a threadmark down to make it clear where the cut-off is, and announce the winners on Sunday the 29th of March. All winners will be both tagged and DM'd, so feel free to turn off notifications for this post after putting your reply down.

A big thanks to @AKNES for supplying the choice of controller for giveaway. If you're interested in joining their Discord community where they run their own giveaways alongside providing customer support for the various things they sell, you can find a link below.

GTA-6 ofcourse 🤣

Borderlands 2 ROM, on my one & only ever Nintendont product, an Erista Switch. Borderlands is the only game I installed on that Switch so yeah it's my fav rom hack 😂

Would love to own a Ps5 Professional as Rich of DF calls it 😂
PSSR 2 seems legit & am thinking RE Requiem on the Professional is da diggidy bomb

I usually lurk but I'll take my chances and enter to win lol.
Still looking forward to them new Jet Set Radio, Golden Axe, and Crazy Taxi games Sega teased way back in 2023. They gotta be releasing soon right?? *huffs copium*

I don't really play ROM hacks but Goof Troop paradise dropped a few months ago and caught my eye, likely going to be the next one I play when I find the time.

Coolest gaming tech I own? My original Dreamcast controller. Despite 25 years of abuse from me as a kid and being held together with superglue, to this day it still does not have any joystick drift... Now that's pretty cool if you ask me.

Let's see... For an upcoming game, Kingdom Hearts 4 is my most anticipated, but since that's not coming out for several more years at this point, I'll also say Mina the Hollower.

My favorite romhack is Jiggies of Time, which is a Banjo Kazooie and Ocarina of Time crossover on the N64 with really tight level design and a surprising amount of polish.

For a cool bit of tech, I have a Luigi's Mansion Arcade cabinet I was able to pick up at a yard sale for $100. It's currently in need of a little TLC, but it's fully functional.

Hello!
Well, even if I promised myself to not buy any game this year, I am looking forward
for the Switch version of the game 'Until Then'.

One of my favourite ROM hacks is Yoshi's Island - No Crying, Improved SFX and Red Coins.
Sometimes, a little change can make a big difference in the appreciation of a game!

For gaming techs, I'm glad to have been given a MiyooMini some years ago.
That little console is still useful today.

good luck to everyone!

-Upcoming game: Deep rock galactic, Rogue core, I've been waiting to check it out since it was announced a few years back.

-Favorite rom hack: Not sure if it counts, but Project M for smash melee is one of my favorite game hacks, otherwise The legend of banjo kazooie hack is awesome.

-Cool gaming tech: I recently hacked my switch and have been having lots of fun with that, I have a hacked wii, a miyoo mini plus, and my original gameboy color. I am really interested in trying the steam controller, the new one mainly, but the old one would be fun to mess around with too.

Good luck everyone, and thanks for the give away. It was fun reading everyone's comments.

Great, count me in:

-The upcoming games that I'm waiting for, are Pragmata and Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.

-My favorite ROM hack? well, a though question for sure, even more for a guy that has been around for a while... but I'm going with Castlevania Dawn of Symphony. This rom hack adds Symphony of the Night characters, items, elements and even a new story, to the already infamous and incredible Aria of Sorrow. Hands down my favorite GBA adventure of all time!!

-Cool tech? Well, I love my Tribute 64 Wireless controller, it´s just awesome to play N64 games on newer consoles with this one. Also, I have always wanted a Xbox ROG Ally but the price is just too much for me.

Thank you for these giveaways!!!

Let's see...

I'm looking forward for Pokemon Champions but only as a spectator. I don't have a Switch or Switch 2 to play it on and I really don't know if my mobile device is adequate for playing it once that version comes out.
Favorite ROM hack of all time? Definitely Sonic 3 Complete! Sonic 3 & Knuckles with Sonic 3 music cues is heaven!
I don't really own any cool gaming tech but I am very interested in the Elves 2 Pro Controller because it advertises that it is compatible with the versions of Windows and Android my devices currently have.

I'm hoping the Pokemon's 10th gen will be better than S/V since they did not perform well on hardware. My favourite ROM hack is Pokemon Unbound. Not quite tech, but I still have one my e-Reader cards from Mario Advance 4 that I got for my birthday over 20 years ago.

I don't look forward to many new games these days, I'm not really into the latest stuff, I feel that the quality of a lot of modern productions is not as good as in the past. Microtransactions, DLCs, live service, and studios selling unfinished games with promises of patching them up with free updates in the future (often failing those promises). And often prioritizing graphics and visuals over enjoyable gameplay.
But, I still have a Nintendo Switch (first generation), and one game I am looking forward to is the new Rhythm Heaven/Paradise game: Rhythm Heaven Groove. It's a series I enjoyed very much. It may feel easy and boring compared to more serious rhythm games, but Rhythm Heaven also has a lot of charm and gameplay elements that you won't find in any other rhythm game. Unlike most rhythm games, where you have to look at some form of chart, a lot of the Rhythm minigames in Rhythm Heaven can be played blind, just by listening to the audio cues. It's truly something unique, and I look forward to the new game, since the last one was released on the 3DS many years ago. I just hope that it will be available as a physical cartridge release.

My favourite ROM-hack: I'm not that much into complex ROM hacks and complex mods. But I am very much into replacing the music in games with custom tracks. For some of you, it might be the only thing you know me for.
But, in the past, I've played Newer Super Mario Bros. on the Wii, and it was pretty great, the quality was great, almost like an entirely new game.
I'm also grateful for the English translation project of Animal Crossing e+, since otherwise, I and a lot of other people wouldn't really be able to experience this expanded version of the original Animal Crossing.

Cool bit of gaming technology: There are many little things I could pick from, but I'll have to choose the Steam Deck. It's an awesome and relatively affordable all-in-one computer, with hardware powerful enough to play even some of the most demanding modern PC games, both on-the-go and at home.
The computer I use on a daily basis isn't really good for running games, I do other kinds of work on it. I also wouldn't want Steam and its games to make a mess in the OS on my computer, so I'm very happy to have a separate device just for PC gaming. With SteamOS, playing most of my PC games is a seamless, convenient, almost console-like experience. And it runs them better than my non-gaming computer would.
But for me, the most awesome thing about the Steam Deck is that even though it is sold by Valve who expect to make additional profits from the sale of software in the built-in Steam OS, the device itself is really just a standard x86 computer and is fully open. Without being forced to exploit any vulnerability, you're free to install any different operating system on it, and to never use Steam again. Imagine that: you're free to do anything you'd like with the device you own. I think that's what makes the Steam Deck most awesome, especially when comparing it to consoles.
Even without installing a different OS, the SteamOS contains a "Desktop Mode" where you're free to install any (gaming or general-purpose) software you'd like, in the KDE Plasma Linux environment.

Waiting for the Trails in the Sky 2nd chapter. Even though lost some of the original charm, I liked the relaunch of 1st more than original due QoL and modernisation.
ROM hack - probably one or the other translation for Vita game not available in English.
Gaming tech - Amiga fully kitted out. Even without AGA still beats any emu hands down. (And is a nice machine even still.)

An upcoming game you're looking forward to

GTA 6 when and if it comes out.

Favorie Rom Hack = Mario Builder 64. I really wish I was a better builder, but I def think this one is pretty amazing considering what could be done with it.

A cool bit of gaming tech you own or are interested in= I actually own a Sega CDX. Yolu don't see many of those around. I own about 30+ other consoles as well, but I would say the cdx was probably my best find. $2 at a goodwill with all the cords and even a regular sega genesis controller. Def can't complain with that deal/find. 💯

Let me win man, my Switch 2 Joycons gonna die from all the button mashing in Eiyuden Chronicles and I'm not kidding. I'm almost at the end of the game too with a few time consuming recruitments (Beyblade and Cooking). 😂😂😂

Looking forward to Mega Man: Dual Override

Amida's Curse was a fantastic Zelda II romhack.

I own a Panasonic 3DO.
