Digital Nintendo-published titles to be cheaper than physical releases going forwards

yoshi.jpg

Starting from May with the release of Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, digital versions of Nintendo-published Switch 2 exclusives are set to be cheaper than their physical counterparts. Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is now set to cost $69.99 for physical copies, with digital buyers saving $10 at $59.99. Though this is new for US audiences, it should be noted that this has been the case since the system launch in the UK, EU, and Japan. For comparison, Mario Kart World retails for £74.99 physically, with the digital version being £66.99. Similarly, the recently released Pokemon Pokopia retails for £66.99 physically, with the digital version being £58.99.

the switch 2 is an aboslute joke. i own every single US nintendo console except the switch 2. they fail to realize they are losing longtime customers and the stench they are starting to carry will keep people away from their system.

nintendo is going the way of disney. living in false reality and the good ole days are gone. they will just try to grift off the past and make garbage slop in the now and future and then blame the consumer for their problems.

I just came to see Nintendo haters crying and raging at the fact Nintendo did what they asked them to do.
That's what makes this so hilarious. It was never about wanting Nintendo to do something good. They never believed that Nintendo would actually do this, so that helped validate their complaining and hate, and now they are losing it because.... Nintendo actually did something they truthfully didn't expect.

And now they are scrambling to spin it back the other way.

The fact that digital versions of physical games cost more or equal to is a joke. This 'discount' is a joke, but I guess better than nothing coming from Nintendo

That being said, I feel like something closer to 30%-35% difference between physical and digital isn't a far reach. Without making developers shy away from physical

Nintendo lie to us and people. I dislike digital because problem is required internet all of times are very annoy to us and people.

If what happen if internet go break down then people can't get own games back anymore.

If people would threat to destroy nuclear power plants then will complete knock internet down then no download games, no communication, no social websites like Facebook, etc, no email, no banking online no shopping online, no movies and videos online like Netlix, Youtube, etc, etc to nothing like dead in graveyard.

Many people must think twice about digital only are worst ever period. That's why I refuse support digital only.

RIP to all digital sales to death.

Much as I appreciate the idea coming from modern NONTENDO, you can't really argue that a snack is a gift when the alternative has been inflicting starvation.

$59.99 for simple platformers for kids is ridiculous by any possible industry metric, digital or not. 3DS had it right with these smaller games being $39.99, marked down permanently to $19.99. Even that was considered pricey back then.

The real trick the devil pulled on us here was the scheme to use the hybrid nature of the Switch (console + handheld) as an excuse to release fewer games overall and pretend that the handheld ones are "full console games." I guarantee you when Iwata came up with the Switch, that was not his intention.

The reason we get pathetically few exclusives now is this right here. If it's a handheld game, it subs for a console game in the full-price release schedule. If it genuinely can't be a full-price game, it just doesn't even get made.

I don't really care what Yoshi costs because no matter what I say, people will call me a "hater" and I refuse to buy something so overpriced. What I really care about is something no one can deny: the small games are gone.

Having their consumer base build up their digital libraries ensures future console sales viability as long backwards compat is available

Pff it's ridiculous.... it was the purpose of all digital game format in the first place... costing less because no box/cartriges production and more...
So yeah starting May 2026, they are gonna "keep their promise" and give a little discount....amazing! OMG! So nice of them!
Seriously wake up a bit! They (and not just nintendo) just lie and trick everyone with their digital price since the start.

Dang, people hate cheaper games.....
"Cheaper" it's still expensive.

I pre ordered Yoshi and the Mysterious Book for £30ish ~ $40 and at that price it was well worth doing so. I had a discount code to get that price, of course, or else it'd be £50 ~ $66.

Just ten off isn't really much of saving and especially digital which is account-locked.

"Physical"

Man, what a joke that is. You still need to download the game from that "physical" copy.

People really pissed off about this? Hopefully the other 2 will see this and do the same. Digital should be cheaper full stop. I can find physical cheaper day one.

I wouldn't call physical games being priced higher than digital a surprise, but "digital becoming cheaper" fails to make an impact if the price is still so high.

read between the damn lines instead of being such a loyal little sheeple. WHY do you think they are doing this? Why make physical cheaper huh? I'll tell you why it's because their keycard bs failed miserably so this is a trap to get people hooked onto digital only. within a year those keycards and all other physical releases won't exist anymore.
