A controller for your thoughts - win a free controller!

conbanner.jpg

It's around that time of the year I try to be a more productive person, and with that comes the question of where that productivity should be directed. Courtesy of @AKNES I have a controller to give away, with the winner being able to pick from 8BitDo's Ultimate 2C (Bluetooth or Wireless), GuliKit's ES Pro, Elves 2, or Elves 2 Pro, or EasySMX's D05. On top of this, the administration have also decided to give three lucky runner ups a year of GBAtemp patronage, complete with ad-free perks! So what am I asking of you for a chance to win any of these lovely things?

The criteria is simple. You'll need to have been a member before this thread went live. If you're reading this as a lurker, I encourage you to sign up and join in with the larger community. You might not be able to join this giveaway, but there'll be more down the line. For those already here though, you'll just need to reply to this thread, and your reply will need the following information:
  • An upcoming game you're looking forward to
  • Your favourite ROM hack
  • A cool bit of gaming tech you own or are interested in
If you can manage that much, you'll have your shot at the prizes! It might all seem a bit random, but it's handy to check in every so often to see where interests currently lie. If we see there's big interest in a given game, we might go more out of our way to post smaller updates or trailers as they release. If a ROM hack has a bunch of recommendations, we might take a bit of time to feature or review it. It's all good to know.

You'll have a week to enter, with entries closing Friday the 27th of March at 8pm in the UK. I'll pop a threadmark down to make it clear where the cut-off is, and announce the winners on Sunday the 29th of March. All winners will be both tagged and DM'd, so feel free to turn off notifications for this post after putting your reply down.

A big thanks to @AKNES for supplying the choice of controller for giveaway. If you're interested in joining their Discord community where they run their own giveaways alongside providing customer support for the various things they sell, you can find a link below.

Recur is the game I'm looking forward to!
My favorite rom hack is Link to the past / Super Metroid randomizer, combining 2 of my favorite all time games.
I own a Doctor V64 made by Bung enterprises since it's release in 1996. Combining a game copier and a VCD player in one was awesome back in the day. Playing downloaded movies directly on the TV was a game changer, I even made bootleg copies of movies on VHS , specifically the first Matrix movie while it was still in theaters..

1. Hellraiser The Revival PC

2. Rockman No Constancy (hands down one of the better romhacks out there and in the future I hope to do a no damage clear of it)

3. My gaming pc that I built. It has an i9 processor, 64 gb of RAM, and nvidia rtx 4070 ti. Going to skip the 5000 series of gpu's as they are too expensive. I'll wait about a good 2 years before upgrading my gpu.

Don't need the controller as I am buying my own. https://www.bestbuy.com/product/log...9UADQHfaQ2Am5V1hinLzhsOOleQjxUzRoCv64QAvD_BwE

Somewhat expensive mouse but its definitely a bang for your buck if your a hardcore pc gamer like me.

Good luck to everyone!
For myself, I'm really looking forward to the new Onimusha game, I have very fond memories playing the previous ones on PS2 with my brother.

I'm not much of a romhack aficionado, but after seeing a news here, I started playing Pokémon Lazarus, and I must say I enjoy it quite much!

And I got an AYN Thor a couple months ago, a bit expensive but really great stuff, I've been able to play some old games I missed, and the double screen is really useful, even outside DS/3DS emulation, and the form factor is really the best IMHO.

Looking forward to Pragmata.

Favorite romhack is Return to Dinosaur Land by RAGB.

I have the CubeODE, it basically made my GameCube go from fancy door stopper to low-end PC. Well, kinda.

A game I'm looking forward to is one of the Pokémon gen 10 games. I'll probably end up getting Pokémon Waves since I like that shade of blue a bit more. I finally saved up enough to buy into the Switch 2 a few days ago, so I should be good to go...

I've played too many rom hacks over the years to have a clear favorite, honestly. Zelda games, Mario games, Pokémon games, good 'ol fashioned translations, and of course randomizers. I'm gonna have to shout-out collectively all the Archipelago Randomizers for games like Pokémon Crystal, Pokémon FireRed, Ocarina of Time (SoH), Majora's Mask (Zelda64Recomp), and Stardew Valley—most of which I've played a few dozen times by now and I enjoy those particular randomizers profusely, often together in true AP style.

I do have a bunch of little gaming knicknacks. I was cleaning my room the other day and found my ancient Ice Blue Game Boy Pocket, which I had honestly forgotten about. Way back when I think it came with Link's Awakening (not DX) which is a blast from the past. At the moment, I'm rather enamored with the Switch 2 I just got since I can finally play Nintendo's newer offerings like the new Donkey Kong game and Pokopia, which are both quite a bit of fun.

1. Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter remake.
2. I don't remember many ROM hacks, so I'll go with a weird bootleg I enjoyed in my childhood, it was called RockMan 5 and it was actually a yellow colored version of MegaMan patched into Darkwing Duck for the NES.
3. I would really love to try/get one of these PULSAR monitors.

Thanks guys.
I’m looking forward to many new games, but here are a few
  • The new Castlevania game
  • The next chapters of Deltarune
  • Mega Man: Dual Override
  • Half Life 3 (if it turns out to be true)
  • And Mouse, PI (which someone already mentioned here)
My favorite ROM Hack is Pokemon Prism, currently.

My favorite piece of tech is my steam deck, and I’m interested in switch modchips and game cart dumpers (in general).

Pragmata looks fun and neat.

  • Your favourite ROM hack
I just started hacking again, so I don't have a direct favorite, but getting translations are one of my favorite things to do.

  • A cool bit of gaming tech you own or are interested in
Increasingly getting interested in DS handhelds, especially the AYN Thor.

1. Not many games Im looking forward to these days but, Bubsy 4D I'm excited to see how it shapes up.
The demo was a real joy for someone who enjoys a bit of loony toons magic.
The coyote walk just really makes me smile.

2. My favorite romhack has to be Sonic Classic Heroes.
Dunno if it was ever updated with more than two teams of characters but in the version I still play it has been great fun with rubber band mode on and one to two friends for a bit of co-op.
It combines Sonic 1 and 2 together into one game and getting all the emeralds is possible rather early.
I'd setup a sonic and tails rubber band mode and hand the controller to my little neice who'd enjoy picking up sonic and tossing him into spikes but she'd never get damage herself cause only sonic loses rings.
It has had me wishing for an indie game or ab official sonic game take that kind of focus again since it proved a choatix like co-op mpde can work well with some good level design.
Real big shame we never see Choatix in collections and Sonic Super Stars didnt even try to make a proper co-op mode which could have benefited from a rubberbanding effect or just keeping the players on the screen somehow.
Maybe someone can try modding choatix rubber banding in superstars one day.

3. Hmm got a CRKD Nitrodeck+ switch controller to replace my dead joy-cons which I've enjoyed for the four grip buttons and how it can work on PC while charging my switch at the same time, which I really coulda used several years ago. Handy now my joycons died but it does feel more generic than premium.
Also I grabbed the clear white one and forgot the back was a bright solid white looking mismatched but hey it works, providing I can find my right stick rop again as they pop off a little easier than expected.
Also gotta mention looking forward to the Steam Controller 2 as my new main PC controller and gopefully other devices if fan hacks and mods allow.

Still not sure I'll get an 8bitdo pro 2 but wouldnt mind trying it's steam input friendly mode least till the controller I want is out but it is nice to have something handy that works with whatever very quickly.

I'm going to be boring on the first two points :-)

1) Looking forward to the next Zelda (it hasn't been announced AFAIK, but it will certainly happen, sooner or later!)
2) ROM hack: New Super Mario Bros Wii!
3) Probably too many to be listed, but the more relevant are bt-embedded and embedded-game-controller, since they are about adding support for Bluetooth controllers to the Nintendo Wii (so indeed, one more controller to add would be nice :-D). I just got the 3bitdo Ultimate controller and the original Nintendo Joy-Cons to work over bluetooth (in button mode only, no accel data yet), so I'm quite close. Another project worth mentioning is OpenGX, and porting a few libs (I did the SDL2 port) and games to the Wii.
