I mainly waited for community made boost mode to play switch 1 games in native resolution. Very unexpectedly Nintendo made pro consumer move and although it is not perfect it does work good enough for me so I upgraded. For other games and systems ... Well I have v1 switch and I might consider Odin 3 but we will see.

I feel like that's like someone keeping a switch 1 on the launch firmware, below 3.0.0 in the hope we'll get a true cfw instead of using a dongle or modchip. I know either of those things aren't available on switch 2. But if there ever will be a switch 2 hack, I can't imagine it'll be software related, given how the only reason it happened so quick on the switch 1 was due to nvidia's fuck up on the tegra chip.

Yeah, other than Pegascape in the early days, the Switch OS hasn't had any vulnerabilities for 9 years.

reporting here. All it has is the day one update and cyberpunk / Mario Kart World. No issues waiting. It will come.

You're always going to give yourself the best chance of hacking your Switch in the future if you keep it in lockdown. We simply don't know if 19.0 Switches have any currently undiscovered security vulnerabilities which will be useful in the future. It looks more likely to me that there aren't and it will require a modchip to hack the Switch 2. Whether you update or not depends on whether you'd rather use your Switch 2 now or slightly increase your chances of hacking it in the future.

I’ve only done the first update to play MKW; otherwise, no updates since it was released, even though I realised there was obviously no point in leaving it in that state and that (BIG) IF there’s a hack, it’ll probably be a hardware one.

I’ll stick with it for another year, I’d say, until the day the Ocarina of Time remake comes out, if the rumours are true, and then I’ll update it.

I mean you can already boot into atmosphere directly on fw <4.1.0 (even if ipatched) fully in software. As long as you don't accidentally burn your fuses.

Not exactly the day 1 firmware, maybe whatever the 2nd update was after that? Pretty easy to keep it on a low firmware when I haven't been interested in a lot of the games released so far.

No. I don't know about you but I like playing games. That's why I bought the console. I'm not so opposed to paying for games that I'm not willing to pay for a single one. I'm fine paying the Nintendo tax until a mod is available. It's worked well for me on every other console so far.
I'm not holding out for free games? I've already purchased a bunch of Switch 2 games. I'm waiting for homebrew, in particular...cheats and game saves. I'm getting too old to grind through games anymore.

The point was that if you keep it on launch day firmware you can't play hardly anything.

I think it's still on day 1 firmware. Not out of the box firmware, but the day 1 update needed to play MKW. Other than that, I haven't had much reason to use it.

And Switch 1 games have received patches for boost performance so if played offline they'd be missing out on it. Not to mention the Handheld Boost Mode which is pretty cool (I'll definitely use it when there's a Switch 2 OLED).

At this point, you're basically hoping for a miracle to happen. If this were like the Switch 1, then we'd have seen some progress, but practically nothing has happened.

And for all we know, this could be an XB1 situation. That console was considered unhackable, but 12 years later, someone found a crack in the wall, and broke it down. A crack that is considered unpatchable. Should such a thing happen with Switch 2 where the attack is unpatchable, would waiting with an unused console be worth it?

The thing with Xbox is that there was no real motivation for hackers to hack it as it can already do so much as it is.

True, but let's be honest. Other than the drive of having a hacked Switch 2, what would a hacked Switch 2 even grant that one could not do with current portable devices like the Steam Deck, AYN Thor, etc?

Honestly this is a pretty big deal. I've been complaining about how the 720p looks upscaled in handheld mode since day 1. I was hoping they would add native 1080p in handheld but I really wasn't expecting it.

I don't play handheld a lot, but I was replaying ace attorney trilogy and the upscaling looks so bad in 2D content. Especially text.

Imagine sitting there looking at your untouched Switch 2, 3 and 4 hoping for hacks
