Judging by the comments under their YouTube announcement, you are in line with the majority. This is slop at its finest. As a dev you can use this if you want to make "Instagram - The Game", but for pretty much all existing games this is an insult.

I can't be the only one who thinks this looks ugly as shit and has zero respect for "art direction"?

You are not. But then all of you expression that viewpoint are incredibly ignorant. Watch Digital Foundry's initial video on DLSS5 and watch their more in-depth one before spewing absolute nonsense about the greatest graphical leap in more than a generation. Because what you and others are saying is absolute embarrassing and will not age well.

"AI slopification" has been making gaming better for this entire decade through machine learning. As for "art direction," not one of these fckers is an artist and I couldn't care less what ANY game dev thinks of what I do with MY settings on MY Nvidia card. Especially when it makes their shitty looking game look stunning, as shown in this week's demos.

As long as it stays optional. That said, Ai literally needs these "not artists" for this to work. Well, until Ai starts Ai-ing each other.

I wouldn't judge it yet to be fair. This is basically the tech in its worst form. The original version of DLSS upscaling was also awful but it matured and got good. Given that this atm needs 2x 5090's with them saying it'll be more optimized by launch so probably one 5090 with a massive hit to FPS, we are years away from this being in any real usable state anyway. When the tech is more mature and the actual artists making the games are the one dialiing in the settings to use it has some potential.

AI upscaling is not the same as what's going on with DLSS 5. Are you blind? And speaking of "incredibly Ignorant", that would be you. Take a few deep breaths, calm down, and try again. Because it looks like shit.

How they even call this DLSS when its just genai WAN applied to uglify..

I mean "yassify"

"AI" trained on AAA titles to make other AAA titles look more like AAA titles, in all their plastic glory. You thought all AAA games looked the same before? Well now they'll be identical.
I even wonder why devs didn't make the models super pretty from the get go...
We don't need AI.
Heck, I could brush up textures and retop. the mesh if I wanted..

I just don't want

I loved this from Gameranx.

Let me get this straight: We now have three options when it comes to the latest AAA titles:
1 - We can play them stuttering with low resolution (DLSS off)
2 - We can play them at acceptable resolution with an acceptable framerate and ghosting (DLSS 4)
3 - We can uglify them for the cost of a SECOND RTX 5090.

I still hope we'll see better optimized games due to high hardware prices... at least for a year or so.

My question is: what's the plan once graphics look like real life? Are they going to add new features like "finish your taxes" and "do your laundry" next?
