The NES game Faxanadu is now playable on PC using nesrecomp, a tool that converts NES ROMs into C code that can be compiled into native applications.

The project already runs in a playable state and aims to add bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements over time.

Whoa, kudos to the dev(s). I'm interested to see how this develops, since there are games that would be interesting to have as native PC ports.

For example, Bubble Bobble Part 2 has quite a bit of slowdown. A PC port might even bring a simultaneous co-op mod to the game, which the original didn't (couldn't?) support. Even the original Bubble Bobble had a good amount of flickering.

Another example is Contra Force, which is notorious for its slowdowns. (I believe Infidelity just released an NES-to-SNES port of it recently. I bet it runs better, but I haven't tried it yet.)
