Recently, I've been getting the CF check on almost every page load, and sometimes it also gives me a security error so I have to reload the threads I'm in.

Could this please be looked into?

Guess why it happens?

Cloud WAF and bot protection platforms are never 100% accurate so they can take extra and hightened measures during suspected DDOS, attack and bot traffic spikes.

Cloudflare's check is decent and not terribly intrusive on real user traffic. Along the lines of VPN, using an iOS or Mac with iCloud Relay can also trigger these from time to time (and on others bot detections like Google reCAPTCHA).

Cloudflare is not "vigilantes" they're a company based in California who act as an arm of government for compliance and long term enables the "Great Firewalls of [Insert Domestic Internet Country]"

So yes, that's what it's for, because the internet is becoming illegal; to be shifted with the Domestic internet, like in China, or an "intranet" as I like to call it. There's a whole "Compliance Industry" now.

And the bipartisan push for it is because country leaders are offended that the internet has democratized the poorest in society enough to speak truth to power. They can't act with their classic "authoree-tay" if the internet exists as it has, so they're bordering it off and turning it into CableTV, which is why I also surmise that at least some of the latest mods, even on this website have been replaced by glowni--rs like a lot of clearweb sites, because there's such an obvious crackdown on the remnants of the google-indexed internet.

And it's stupid to just blame Jeff Bezos for the ruination of the internet. He's no better than your democratic reps or EU MEPs. But he's also no worse, in 9 cases out of 10. Either they're normies and they think anything that isn't Facebook (before Zuckerberg zucked it up) is "icky" because anonymity is creepy to especially GenZ and Gen Alpha girls who can't comprehend why you don't post your selfie and life-check-in every 5 seconds of your life. Or it's just legitimate politicians who are p i s s e d that they came into politics only to find that they're being rubbed in the face by people that know better than they do hiding behind a keyboard.

Bearing that in mind, there is nothing good about Cloudflare, even if it holds some bots at bay.

Never had any issues on the temp, I do have issues sometimes but that was mainly on android and after installing Warp/One, I never had any issues.

There times when the temp is actually down however, but that is more than likely due to attacks.

I was going to make an article about replacing Cloudfare with Anubis, but it seems like someone had already made a thread regarding issues with Cloudfare, so I'm going to mention it here to see if this can be a suggestion to change:

https://github.com/TecharoHQ/anubis

I don't know how any of this stuff works, so if anubiw isn't the best replacement for such, I'd like to know and understand why

The end results of both products are roughly the same, but the integration process is wildly different.

Setting up Cloudflare's protection is as simple as toggling a series of switches on your domain's admin console. It's about as idiot-proof as it gets and all of the technical work is handled for you in the cloud. Anubis has to run on your server(s), which isn't necessarily a huge issue but can take a longer time to set up and occasionally be more difficult to maintain. Like with any self-hosted open-source project, there's also a greater risk of supply chain attacks, faulty patches, or misconfiguration, all of which could impact the security or reliability of your site. That being said, all of those drawbacks come with the huge perk of not paying for an external service and being downstream of the decisions that its owners make.

Ultimately, and here is where we stretch into my opinion, the choice between the two options is less technical and more personal/political. If you believe that Cloudflare's presence in virtually every corner of the internet is a problem and don't want to be beholden to their whims, then Anubis is the product for you. If you don't mind outsourcing your filtering, Cloudflare is fine. Some people also just don't have the time, skill, or desire to maintain a self-hosted solution, so they'll opt to "set and forget" the Cloudflare option.

If you're interested in learning about how Anubis works, here's a fairly accessible article that covers that.

Thank you so much for this information!!!! I'm definitely looking at that article because if there's one thing about technology that I have a hard time wondering, it's cloud infrastructure

This happens to me all the time on all the other websites using Cloudflare that I visit. For reasons unknown, not so much over here.

As VPN user I get this often on many sites.
Usually it is not a big deal. On very weak devices the check sometimes fails and goes into an endless loop.

I'm not complaining! I fully understand why this is needed. Devices that sometimes fail at Cloudflare checks are a lowest end tablet from 2015 and a cheap laptop from 2006.

Unless one is forced to browse the web on museum computers it should not be a problem.
