PlayStation Portal gets cloud streaming update

protal.png

Sony has just released a major update for its PlayStation Portal streaming device. The primary use for the Portal until now has been a remote play device to stream your own PlayStation 5 games to the Portal. With this newly added feature, you can now play PS5 titles without owning a PlayStation 5 at all. PlayStation Plus Premium tier subscribers can stream games they own from the cloud, including Astro Bot, Borderlands 4, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Grand Theft Auto V, Fortnite, Ghost of Yotei, Resident Evil 4, and more.

In addition, hundreds of compatible games from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Classics Catalog****, including Cyberpunk 2077, God of War Ragnarök, Hogwarts Legacy, Sword of the Sea and The Last of Us Part II Remastered are also streamable directly from the cloud.

For a full list of streamable games, visit here.

Cloud Streaming unlocks new ways to play: enjoy a game side-by-side with a friend who’s using your PS5 under a separate account, or stream your favorite game while someone else watches a movie on the console. Cloud Streaming also makes it easier to enjoy PS5 games on the go – at a hotel, café, friend’s place, or anywhere else with a high-speed internet Wi-Fi connection – since you can keep playing even when your PS5 console back home is powered off or is in use by another account.

PlayStation Portal and ROG Xbox Ally X speed running worst "handheld" of the decade
The Ally is at least usable and serviceable as a handheld device. The Portal is nothing more than a $200 always online extra screen for PS5.

"You're holding it wrong."

If it doesn't work out of the box (especially within the rather limited PlayStation ecosystem) this is not the user's fault, but horrible product design. To be struggling with something as mundane as PS5 stock settings is not what I would expect from a first-party device.

Anyway, if you know which setting in particular needs to be adjusted, would you please enlighten us?

And my two cents on the general topic:
Even after this announcement I still don't think that the PS Portal is worth more than said two cents on top of the price of a regular controller.
A hella expensive first party device at that

$150 is way too much for the amount of finicky ness

$150 for a good 3ds handheld that have a good storage memory. Playstation portal its a shitty device that doesnt deserve that price. For $45 dollars it can be a good price for tha shitty "handheld" sony console.

It's been HOW LONG? [ checks calendar ]

Again, so baffling this even exists in the first place, the Vita was perfectly capable for streaming AND gaming, so what's the point of this? Was there a point from the start?
The Sony marketing department would probably answer something along the lines of "We needed to produce new hardware, because the PS Vita does not provide essential features that have been introduced with the DualSense controller." Sawing a controller in half was necessary so you won't miss out on stubborn analogue triggers and HD Rumble.

This device is such a crappy cashgrab.

Who buys this thing?
Sony Portal = Virtualboy

Both crap failures for the two companies, the only difference the portal can streaming with a shitty wifi card some actual 2025 games for $150. Both console failures have sales, even the virtualboy in good conditions have actual price $249 dollars.

Answer your question, only the insane simps hardcore fans that buy trash.

Okay..So what settings ?

Can’t exactly learn from a “you’re doing it wrong”

No, but you can from a Google search.

Like I said. Google. Lots of people with the same problem have offered the same answer with many people saying it helped. You two obviously didn't even bother doing something as simple as searching for "ps5 portal pixelated". Can't stand when people complain about shit then want their hand held for a solution.

Set PS5 to output 1080p, disable 120hz, and set VRR to auto. And before you complain some more, yes, I agree that you shouldn't have to fuck with settings on the PS5 every time and those settings should be available directly on the Portal.

Apparently, you have lots of time to rant and no time to paste the results of your supposed Google search, mate.

And you seem to be jumping to conclusions. I was solely complaining about your public display of arrogance. I don't even need your worthless input as I am using Chiaki on my Steam Deck just fine. It tells a lot about the Portal if a non-Sony solution works out of the box (so yeah, it's NOT the PS5 settings) and a Sony product doesn't.

You are really making a clown of yourself here, but please go on.

Says the guy who apparently has lots of time to rant but not the time to learn how to read, is showing a public display of arrogance, and is making a clown out of themself. I did in fact state what the "solution" or whatever a person would like to call it is, that has been stated by many people as significantly increasing the image quality on the Portal. It's even in the quote you used. But please, go on.

Did you try the settings, or no? An awful lot of people across many different threads in various locations have all stated that changing those settings did in fact significantly increase the image quality on their Portal. So no, you didn't Google SHIT. Because pages worth of results come up. Know what talking out of your ass is? Saying the settings don't help when you didn't even try them and claiming you Googled the problem when you clearly did not. LOL! What a moron.
