Microsoft is internally testing a free Xbox Cloud Gaming service with ads

Industry insiders are reporting to several news outlets that Microsoft is getting ready to announce a version of Xbox Cloud Gaming supported with ads, with some employees testing the service to play selected titles for free without having a Game Pass subscription.

According to The Verge, the new version of Cloud Gaming will allow users to stream games they own, alongside some eligible "Free Play Days" titles, letting users try out games over a weekend. The Verge's sources also claim that the testing currently has two minutes of preroll ads before the game is available to be streamed for free, with the current limit being allowing up 1 hour of streaming session, with the maximum being 5 hours per month.

This ad-support free version of Xbox Cloud Gaming will be available for PCs, Xbox devices as well as handheld devices, and through the web. with an apparent public beta about to be released soon, with a full launch in upcoming months after the public beta.

its time to unite and make fun of people who are braindead lemmings who would actually partake in something like this. society needs to stand up and say no to these types of things and its up to every real human to make fun of and talk trash abotu anyone who supports this type of idiocracy.

if u support this u are a slave imo.

You get buffering, ads that may vary in time frame, multiple consecutive ads potentially (YouTube does it, as do many streaming services). You will get frame rates that won't be great due to the piss poor code many of these games are made with, constant internet requirement 24/7 (if your internet goes out or gets interrupted, guess who doesn't get to keep playing anything at all), a Microsoft account is needed, zero control at the hardware level. You are 100% at the mercy of Microsoft and their service. When the server is discontinued, you will lose EVERYTHING, including progress in all of your games. Just like you pay subscriptions to keep nothing, you pay time to keep nothing.

This also indirectly negatively impacts other factors along the way. Game play recordings for example, because you'll be recording ads along with the game play, which means even more direct advertisements, and annoyances for the viewer who can't skip those (unless the uploader is kind enough to stick video markers in place, meaning more time wasted for redundancies). This also makes streaming harder for streamers because now they are being hit double time, streaming their own feed AND cloud gaming, that's going to eat the bandwidth pretty hard, especially if you start doing high resolution streaming at specific frame rates. So unless you have money to toss around to somehow avoid most of these inconsistent issues, everyone is fucked.
"O-Oh, You can just use an Adblock only if you're on firefox doe, and you can PIRATE the games!, you know the thing that is TOTALLY the morally right thing to do that DEFINITELY didn't lead to companies like Microsoft doing the exact thing they're doing now with problems that you're complaining about as a consequence!, these shitty games TOTALLY worth PIRATING only getting fucked in a different way in the future!"

How many times do we have to go through this cycle?, until the day all modern games/rereleases are in the "You villl own nothing, and you vill be happy" territory that a majority of pirates (who brag about it and taunt the companies they shouldn't be getting the attention of and have about 20IQ a piece) are accelerating the "ownership-free" world companies like Google, Amazon, and Microsoft are fucking salivating over the possibility of?

This Ad-Supported cloud gaming is another step partially made to let both the idiots who will pay for it with a smile pay for it, and punish the other group of useful idiots who helped make it a reality because the shareholders were concerned about the potential of the dumbest generation of internet pirates of all time.

Here's a funny thought, I wonder if the ad time also consumes the game time? Is it actually 5 hours of game time, or 5 hours of game time + watching ad time?

Please don't give them ideas...

I think it's neat, but the amount of time makes it useless. GeForce Now is way more generous at their "free tier" than whatever this is.

Here's GeForce Now. It's pretty neat, and you can stream some of your Steam/Epic/Xbox games that you already own.
GeForce Now is for games you already bought, this ad thing is for games you haven't bought and want to play

The future is truly what we make of it. The difference between video games and reality, this isn't a video game. There is no reset button, no power button to take a break. There are no passwords to start at specific points, or save data to load from when we fail and or want to continue later. Getting a game over is permanent. If you think cheating will pull you through, you are wrong, there are no cheat codes, there are no hacked clients. We don't start with three lives, we start with only one. We only move forward, with no ability to go backwards. It's best that we don't fuck up the only chance we have for any kind of good future.

whats the alternative? let the world go to shit and stay silent about it? no alot of these people are just brainwashed idiots because they have been manipulated by big companies since they came out the womb.

if u want to see more violence and civilization to continue to unravel in real life u keep letting companies do what they are doing.

as the world burns, we take turns, losing concern, cause we all gotta earn.

keep up the cyclical nature than i guess is your method of handling this.

btw im not confrontational with people. its the ideas that i have to be confrontational with. maybe some people can be awakened through some confrontational communication where we point out their slave actions helping corporations continue the downturn are a major part of the problem.

Ah, the old days where The Man didn't know what you were doing 24/7, and didn't build detailed profiles based on your daily activities...and couldn't feed you ads effortlessly.

I get it. It makes me sick seeing people defending stuff like this too but we can't just go all Hitler on em. I honestly don't know what the answer is except don't give these companies the attention they prey on.

I blame Obama and Bush. Edward Snowden tried to warn us, but people stopped caring a few weeks after he fled to Russia.

I'm curious, how do people handle the lag and the artifacting? Or do normies not care?

The audience they're aiming for blinks with one eye at a time. They were already convinced that gamepass was a good deal at at least one point in time, so it's not an unreasonable assumption that they have no standards.

You can even unlock the full game if you watch video of your parents dying!

They throw the free game incentive in to test first. At this rate you'll be seeing (more) ads in games you've paid for by the end of the year

We already have a method of "trying out" games. They're called demos. Especially in the PS3 & Xbox 360 days where you downloaded the full game that was effectively paywalled at a certain point with a small unlock once you purchased it.
DOUBLY so when demos aren't under the genius idea called "timers", encouraging people to rush through & thus ruining gameplay pacing.

Also LOL @ game companies STILL trying to make game streaming a thing while American ISPs are no better than South Park cable companies
