I'm still green on some aspect of donor certs, can a kind soul clear my doubts?
I'm trying to backup my collection or at least 5-6 game put them in the mig switch and let little cousin use it.
Does using a single set of donor certs protects me or him from being notice by big N, if we are playing the same game at the same time ( me with the original and him in the mig switch, no multiplayer though)?
Are donor certs to be use with dumps found in the sea?
what can they actually do for me?, i have two copies of super smash and i planned to use one as donor, but is it worth?
should i go 1:1 dump instead?
The only thing that concerns me is if i want to play a game and little cousin is playing the same game, i dont want to get ban and i thought that donor certs would prevent that for some reason.

Speaking from what I've gathered mainly here, in this thread, so I might not be 100% correct.

Does using a single set of donor certs protects me or him from being notice by big N, if we are playing the same game at the same time ( me with the original and him in the mig switch, no multiplayer though)?
I believe that it protects both of you as both Switches might get banned if two same certs are detected at the same time. Therefore, you can play your games, but if you give your cousin the MIG Switch with the game backups on it and one donor cert for all of the games (you can use the same one for all games, just rename them properly), I'd advise that you delete all of his wireless connections, tell him not to use LAN connection either and put the console in an airplane mode, just to make sure he doesn't connect to the Internet.

As far as I know, as long as you use donor cert files (they can be taken from one game, and used for all the other games you have) and you're 100% sure that no one else than you dumped the game at any point (i.e. you bought it new or used from someone you know who bought it new and didn't dump it). Don't use donor certs from a used game if you aren't 100% sure that no one dumped the game before you. If you do it anyway, that will be a really risky move that might get your cousin's console banned.

Going online is apparently only safe if you have a full dump of the game, no other way around it.

Are donor certs to be use with dumps found in the sea?
Yep, you can use it with those dumps. You'll take the base game and initial data file from the sea dumps, and the rest of the .bin files from a donor cert.

what can they actually do for me?
In best case, you'll get a so called certificate / header ban. Quoted from this thread: "Games require a cert in order to be able to play online. If a user injects a certificate from a different game, it is flagged on Nintendo's servers. From there, they can choose to implement a cert ban meaning any games injected with that header cannot go online. Relevant error code is 2124-4025." That's only if you go online with a donor certs and, in best case, they'll ban those certs and not your console, I guess?

In the worst case, you can get your console banned which means that your online activities will be limited to downloading firmware updates only.

i have two copies of super smash and i planned to use one as donor, but is it worth?
If you bought one of them new or you're 100% sure that no one else before you dumped it, you can use donor certs from one of those carts.

should i go 1:1 dump instead?
Going 1:1 dump is intended by MIG Switch as well. You're supposed to make a backup of a selected few games from your own collection and put those games on the MIG Switch so that you don't have to carry around all those carts you want to play on your Switch. You can go with that route as well, but you need to make sure that neither one of you are playing the same game at the same time.

The only thing that concerns me is if i want to play a game and little cousin is playing the same game, i dont want to get ban and i thought that donor certs would prevent that for some reason.
As I've mentioned, in best case you'll only get a certificate / header ban. In worst case it could lead to console ban.

I hope they can fix the two flaws of this product. One is that you have to take the card in and out to move to the next game and second is that if your switch goes into sleep mode, you need to delete the index...
If you the donor game in plane mode, there is no way Nintendo will now that you are both playing at the same time. I think it is pretty obvious that's the way to go about this. It's to play it in airplane mode.

now that i think deeply about, im no concern of getting my console ban (i have 7 N switches-weird flex but ok), my biggest concern would be to damage my original cartridge in some form like them getting flag by N.
so, i thought that using donor certs would be like; donor cert X playing game A and would show like im playing game x. i thought that is was ok to play game A while my little cousin is playing game A too with not repercussion since it would show that he is playing game X.

I more worried about second hand items...
Now we would see banned games and more switches that received ban.
Good for N, if ppl want clean option then would buy new ones.
But their support would go hell from messages about banned games that ppl would get

I doubt they will do anything there’s no way to certainly tell 100% of the time who’s being a bad actor on purpose and who just had a second hand game

I don't play any games online at all. I have .xci files and I just need one cart to get the 4 .bin files I need to use the mig switch. Is there somewhere I can get those files that are already banned and make it work?

They are already announcing a second version of their card....before people have even received the first version LOL
So much drama, MIGgrift Vs unlock grift.

It will be very interesting when MIG releases the new card with the button on it to try and compete with the unlock switch.

I wonder how long it will take for gen 1 MIG owners to try and flash the gen 2 FW and mod their cards to add a micro switch and a resistor :rofl2:

So here’s the dumper. It definitely dumps at faster speeds than my v1 switch was doing over usb C.

That being said it’s kinda dumb that it doesn’t automatically name the rom files properly like the MIG Dump tool NRO homebrew does which is stupid I think

But hey it does work as advertised and faster. I have Ryujinx set to watch the dumpers directory so it’s just like plugging in and playing a cartridge offficially on my PC

Would be neat it Ryujinx could load the switch homemenu and automatically change like it would on a system as well

sounds like just from those twitter links above, migdiy might be a different company? out of china, with non-pre sales already live? I like that it's just a touchpad, not even a solid button. And yeah, like stonedmodder shows, apparently the dumpers are starting to reach consumers this weekend from what I've seen. I saw on a fb post in a group today someone else posting they got theirs.

Lets try and pretty up this dumper case. Especially that nasty crooked sticker

Won’t be a complete 1:1 since the extra bits are really only for support or lining things up but should still work and be functional

Another update from UnlockSwitch team (from Telegram):

Firstly, thank you for your patience. We've opted to take our time to develop a solution that won't become outdated in x months.

The UnlockSwitch MSK represents an open-source solution; no files or code come bundled with our offering. You'll wield complete control over your cartridge, including updates for the two components on the PCB and firmware updates, with further enhancements in the pipeline. This functionality is facilitated by the UnlockSwitch programmer and its complimentary software, the UnlockSwitch programmer software, which comes at no extra cost.

In essence, with the UnlockSwitch , you take charge of flashing your cartridge whenever updates are needed.

We're already aware that various teams are actively refining the code and will soon be online.

Once again, we emphasize that we have NO affiliations with any other team; our sole focus is on delivering high-quality hardware.

As previously announced, we'll be distributing 50 free samples to regular users, beta testers, and reviewers, eagerly anticipating their feedback.

No pre-orders, orders, or even samples will be available until the community provides external validation.

Once the files are ready, they'll undergo rigorous testing, feedback will be collected, validation will be sought, and only then will the mass production and commercialization process commence. We're in no rush to sell or accept pre-orders; we firmly believe in the strength of our solution.

We've made a deliberate choice to be transparent, just like our case :)

Every step of the sample production process, distribution, and feedback from the 50 free samples will be shared on Twitter.

In the near future, details about mass production will be shared on Twitter, complete with photos, videos, quantities, and advance notice of availability. Our aim is to do things right and provide maximum information.

Our primary objective for the launch is to unveil the UnlockSwitch along with its game backup solution.

Work on the Xtractor is currently underway, and we anticipate a swift completion.

We're committed to delivering a 2-in-1 solution:

- Empowering users to back up their games independently

- Providing a cartridge to execute their games

We're leaving 100% piracy solutions to the competition; it's simply not our focus.

Our retail price is their wholesale price ...

Regarding the UnlockSwitch MSK :

We've made several improvements compared to the initial demo version:

- A redesigned case eliminates the need for small screw

- A new PCB design

- A new button has been added atop the cartridge for games selection

- An integrated Wi-Fi antenna is now directly embedded on the PCB

- We've introduced a connector to link up with the UnlockSwitch Programmer

The pictures of the UnlockSwitch MSK will arrive after the publication of this post.

Thank you.
