By this point, everything changed from the old methods
and its just a mess at times checking reddit, gbatemp and even the PSX forum still linking to old CFW that are either still asuming the PS3 its on a 6 year old firmwire, or uses obsolete methods that have been replaced long ago

Hacking a PS3 is relatively very easy and once CFW/HEN is installed, the rest is a piece of cake.

As Mr. Dude said himself, if you're not happy, you could make one.

I'm very pleased with my CFW'd PS3 Slim on 4.90 (probably won't update to 4 91 unless it has some new feature, but when 5.00 is available I'll do it just for the number :P).

Actually, the same - or nearly the same - method I've used for my PS3 on Rebug days still do work, only the sites have changed their names due some shady/nasty business from third parties.
Just use the official ps3xploit.me and ps3toolset.com sites, others may lead to interesting, but not that pleasant surprises...

Depends a lot if you want to go online now and then for trophies or whatnot - I run Demon's Souls server emu for me and my mates for example B-) If online connectivity isn't an issue, no need to update if the CFW works. Seems though that Sony has broken their own FW's lately - 4.89 OFW has some issues with displaying menu on certain resolutions and there are rumours and claims on broken Blu-Ray playback on 4.90 OFW.

In general Nat's CFW's are tested very rigorously and even point releases bring in new stuff - some more useful, some not. (I helped on ironing out one bug for one CFW back when - full knowing the risks running beta CFW's though, so I've seen some of the QA side first hand.)

//EDIT Had to test it and no problem with Blu-Rays om my CECHM, EN 4.90

Last edited by lwiz,
Coro made one for hen on psx-place. as for cfw, things on the ps3 are so damn easy with this one that you don't even really need a guide unless you want a link to installing an official update from the playstation instruction manual.
