Can't open Pokemon Emerald .sav file on VBA

Hi everyone,

Im in an unfortunate situation where I cant access my current save-file with a massive amount of time and effort spent and it keeps loading me to a super early version of the game from 2021

I have provided the .sav file attached where it says I last opened it 27th of may last night which gives me hope that the current save still works and that someone with more knowledge than me might be able to restore or help me figure out if its possible to open this file again

Really really hoping someone might be able to help me here

Is there any chance you loaded an old save state?

I've had the experience of loading a save state and the actual save (.sav) then being overwritten with the savestate data (which might be quite old)

Other thought is that perhaps you are not aware where your save directory actually is

It appears so, but the file that is loaded seems to be the one all the way back from 2021 -- The .sav file I provided appears to was last used yesterday looking at the file info so im hoping someone here might be able to open it as to i am clueless to how ..

Its my girlfriends save so this is quite uptsetting to me, do you think its hopeless ?

edit: And the save file has been on the desktop together with the rom itself

were these the pokemon that were supposed to be in her party?

and is this what was supposed to be in the box 1?

Is the dustox supposed to be level 40? Says this save has all 8 badges

If all this is right then you just don't know where the save is supposed to be loaded from - if all this is wrong then the save is gone mate

You are giving me a lot of hope right now!

All her main pokemon were level 40, and that looks like what her party did at last night --

She confirmed the Dustox as well.

Are you saying it could be possible to resume playing this save file?

yeah you just are confused about where the save file should be located I think - you must have either changed where saves go - or changed where the emulator is or something

But if you can find out where the save is actually being loaded from and replace them you should be back in business

I think i messed something up about a week ago when i tryed installing openemu for some ps1 games on her mac, and that her pokemon game might have opened up automatically there and somehow gotten the save files mixed up

Thank you so much for the quick response, im very glad you think i should be able to get this to work guess ill just have to try

I am not super familiar with macs, but if there is a way to search the entire computer in a easy way (like everything program for PC) you could simply just search for .sav and see where else on the computer .sav are

if you can find the one the emulator is pointing to now you can just swap the save back in that directory

Sorry for my confusion, but you are basically saying i should swap the .sav file in the directory where the .sav files go with the one i attached right?

open up vba, go to options tab, then directories and then this should pop up

you could probably just use that to switch the directory to the desktop and voila

The key is to just basically have the correct save in the directory the VBA wants to load from
