Once upon a time the phrase "Tim Burton directing an Addams Family project" would fill me with hope and hype and excitement. Years later, not so much.
The good:
  • The casting of Morticia
  • Jenna Ortega seems to genuinely care for the character and the show, so that's nice.
  • Um...
  • Tim Burton?

The bad:
  • The casting of Gomez.
  • The character of Wednesday has been forever tainted by her depiction as a malicious bitch in Addams Family Values, and that's the one that stuck in the public mind, and that's the one that they're going for in the show.
  • Tim Burton.

So yeah. Will it be any good? Just like that ad for glass coffins said, "remains to be seen."

I think you're expecting too much for future Gomez's re-castings.
Nobody will be nor do it like Raúl Julia did it.
Unfortunately nobody resembles nor acts like Julia nowadays, seriously can't think of nobody...
Jude Law/Johnny Depp comes to mind 🤔

So yeah. Will it be any good?
Define good?
The humor that made The Addams Family in the 60s and the humor that made The Addams Family in the 90s is cancelled. I don't think we'll ever see something like those days... specially the 90s ones.

But why though?
Tim Burton is great when he knows the material he's working with.
To be honest last thing I saw from Burton was Sweeney Todd... I don't know anything beyond that.

It's unfortunate you believe that bullshit.
The 60s Addams Family humor is too slow and predictable these days, because other sitcoms have copied and done and overdone all the jokes; a very clear case of https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SeinfeldIsUnfunny
The 90s movies can be remade today scene for scene, shot for shot, beat for beat and nobody would bat an eye.
Please get out of the sad echo chamber you got stuck in and go watch a movie or something.

Ay ay ay bwah.
I still believe 90s humor is dead and you're delusional to think this Wednesday is gonna be something like old Wednesday, specially comming from Netflix.

Yes. All the 90s comedies are considered lame and outdated and neither edgy nor lolrandumb enough, and have been replaced with South Park and Family Guy and the army of clones that try to out-outrage them.

I hope you're right. The "old Wednesday" sucked. All edge and no point.

The bad:
  • The casting of Gomez.

  • I really don't get the hatred that Luis Guzmán has been getting. He is one of the finest actors on TV and will do a fantastic job of being Gomez.

The biggest compliment seems to be he doesn't look like Gomez yet he looks exactly like the original OG Charles Addams Gomez for the comic books.

Paint it black as an orchestral remix? Marginally curious.

I have a problem with shows set in a school. It it not that it can't be done but is so often overwhelmingly awful that I steer well clear until I hear it is good. Netflix reboot of classic TV show does not have quite the same ring to as Netflix animated, Netflix anime live action remake or Amazon adapting fantasy but it is going to be up there.
Similarly Addams family works better for me as crazy family meets distrusting world but who are the real monsters. Broody teenager in... I am not sure if that is supposed to be out and out supernatural school offers minimal scope for that one and was also part of the reason the second live action film was maybe not as tight as it could be.

Casting of Fester... I could get there but it is going to be an uphill struggle.

Sure to be better than the recent CGI effort though.... apparently there was a second as well but I skipped that one.

Might just go back and watch the cartoon, still have that PCE/TG16 game to play as well.

Watched it.
It's a grimdarkedgy Addams Family fanfic that took the Wednesday depiction from the movies and inserted it into an outline for an urban fantasy YA novel-turned-trilogy-turned-heptalogy one of the writers had been working on since high school but never got around to actually writing. With all the elements, tropes and beats.
As a show, it's pretty decent.
I loved the design of the monster.
I hope it gets more seasons.

Yep watched them all as well and though it was rather good. Jenna Ortega was the perfect choice to play Wednesday. Loved the contrast of light and dark between Wednesday and Enid. Was such a sweet moment at the end of the last episode when they finally hugged.

If there is another season then they seriously need to replace the actor who plays Pugsley he was bloody awful.

Let us not forget "Cousin It". He was a real Hippy before @hippy dave was born :rofl2::D
Whaaaa'? Cousin Itt was a secret agent working for the government, that's as far away from "hippy" as possible.
