The PSP guys got theirs last year soon after the PSP port was announced so what's up with the DS version I wonder? I can't find a status on it anywhere.

Anyone know?

They call it an "Indie" Classic.....

What the hell does "Indie" mean?

Independent, like Independent developer, meaning not a big game computer who makes games professionally.

Cave Story is considered one of the greatest (If not the greatest) RPG ever made by many many many people. It also has no opposition taking place as #1 Indie Game RPG of all time really.

In any case, they've been planning to port this to a console since SNES, just never have, after all that's what it was made for, but they were too late, moved it to Windows and that was it. I didn't even know Pixel was still working on CS, I can only hope they are planning extra storyline and stuff off of it, since the game can't really have a friggin' sequel unless it's after the whole 'final ending' deal.

ok. first, Cave Story is not a RPG, it's a Action-Adventure.
second, the game was never supposed to be for the SNES.
third, Pixel is not working on CS anymore.
fourth, there will be no extra content. it's just a port to the DS

An RPG is a broad term, and it IS an RPG, it may not always be classified as one, because people tend to try and change the way things are, but it is indeed an RPG, as you role play a character, and although you don't level up (As what is considered by many as the basis for being RPG), you do indeed make choices, which is what an RPG is REALLY all about, making choices on how your character wil end up in the end, and being able to go different routes.

Yes, yes it was meant to be for SNES, you can look it up, I'm a member of several Cave Story fansites, and I've done much research on the game, and it's history.

As far as Pixel not working on that, I honestly don't pay much attention to Cave Story on the DS as I haven't heard much information from it, and it's always being stated that it'll be ported to something, which almost never happens.

so you are trying to say that GTA IV is a RPG?
and no, Cave Story was never supposed to be a SNES game. YOU should look it up, it was always supposed to be a freeware PC game.

It was on pixel's website, however since I haven't actually read Japanese in over a year, I no longer have the will or knowledge to actually bother searching for it, all I know is that it was planned for it, and it was stated. Took him too long though (5 years), although that can be considered great timing since he did it all alone.

Doesn't really matter anymore anyhow, since it'll never be on the SNES, for a good reason.

It would be nice to see an update, if Pixel would add some script to it, to create an 'extra' or something.

Many sites are also wrong in saying that there are only 3 endings, when there are actually around 7.

There's always one twat in every RPG thread who has to say that ... always ...

They say it cos they think it makes them look clever, when all it makes them look is tedious and pedantic ...

I hate it when people say a game is an RPG because you "play the role of another character"

Yep. In most games your supposed to be playing the role of a character.

At it's heart it's just a straight forward platform/shooter game. I'd go as far to say it's an action/adventure game but an RPG? No. In the end who cares? Why do people have the need to label something? The game is a modern classic entirely created by one guy.

I played it on my PSP and widescreen really works well for it. Still haven't finished it though. I'm stuck in some underwater level where the water current moves you through some crazy sequence.

So anyone got any new news on this port?

I'm really really really really really really really exited for it.

So Exited that i signed up on this forum. . .
