This is an open translation of Soma Bringer. It's mostly finished, only the ship's glossary is left untranslated.

Latest patch: 2009-02-02 (Download) (Mirror)
Recent updates: Fixed various typos, glossary translated 20%
Game ID: YBSJ-90E5633A

Patcher for mac users (extract to the same folder as the patch and your original .nds file, then run PatchSoma)

If you'd like to make your own translation, here are the various tools I've created:
* Script inserter - SomaTrans v1.4 (requires .NET framework 2.0)
* DAD archive packer - DADTool v1.0

Hey DarthNemesis. I started doing some translations inside your wiki trans and I'd like to know what you think about calling "Corps" as "Cores" as:
-they can be called the core of the group, since they are buffers, healers AND tanks;
-it is a closer romanization.

BTW, didn't you get any errors during the save or back to title screen after recompiling the game? After some translations, mine always locked on those screens.

Well, see you around.

How far are you planning on taking this translation? Just curious if we should expect a somewhat full dialogue translation in the future.

Thanks

Not an official answer as I'm not the leader of that translation (or any translation, for the matter), but the last update I saw, Darth Nemesis still haven't found where the dialog texts were.
And IMO, it should be pretty bad to translate it, since you have to deal with a LOT of line changing and other stuff.

We can just hope someone will have pacience enough for that. >.

Well, an "open" translation definitely seems like the way to go. No disrespect to anyone who has and will be putting hard work into various translations, but having a Wiki-style process would seem the faster, more effective process. I look forward to seeing how it evolves.

Does this project intend to translate the entire dialogue? I realised there's no point to an RPG if you don't know what's going on... I would help out but I can't read Japanese >.< I can only understand it partially (take classes).

Thanks a lot, Nemesis.

Thanks for your interest. Yes, I did find the dialogue and probably any other missing lines, but it's in a huge (2mb) file that I'm still looking into how to repackage. I'm not sure I want to commit to doing all of the dialogue personally, but I certainly intend to get the program working with that file and put the lines up on the wiki.

Hey thx a lot!
deufeufeu seemed to stop his translation so im gonna try yours^^
But is your translation newer than deufeufeus?
I mean the Weapon Names,Menu and so on?

I would love to lend a hand, alas, no Japanese skills whatsoever. Haha. In any case, good to see (another) Soma Bringer translation. Best of luck, and thanks to everyone helping to translate such a fun game. :]

I have added support item (consumables) descriptions. I hope they are all right. I had a little problem with last ones so it would be appreciated if anyone could check them.

Thanks for the additions, but please use the same formatting as the Japanese line. All those extra spaces will mess up the parsing.

Hello there!

I tried Soma Bringer yesterday and have to say that I'm quite happy that there's a project like this, so I'd like to participate.

But for that, I have a question: how detailled do you want to have the translation of items? As an example: I've been looking at the Body Items and tried to fill up the gaps. I tried to translate the katakana armor names and some of them are quite tricky to translate. Do you prefer a rather verbatim translation or an analogous and meaningful translation?
For example: Items - Body - 23 ????????. For now, I wrote down "Arnwa Bran", but I checked the japanese Wiki, and it said that this ???????? is some kind of "Snowflake Armor" from a japanese novel. So do you want to have "Arnwa Bran" or "Snowflake Armor"?

(In my opinion, Arnwa Bran sounds way cooler

I hope that I don't bug anyone with such questions...
