Just a quick message to let you know, grab the new version, its alot more advanced AND can now recognise iso's which have been patched from another region and can recognise the original region!

Not sure if this adds more compatibility with the recent games which didnt work on PAL machines, like scarface, but if someone wants to try, im at work so cant yet!

:-)

It's a heap more detailed now, and has partition extraction/injection - I just want to know when they discovered all this stuff about partitions and if it's documented anywhere? I noticed the starting offsets were ones I had noted down in the past while looking through some Wii ISOs

Anyway, I'll upload it to the download database now.

EDIT: Done. Download here: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?download=722

I just noticed, they even have a link to the compatibility list on the GBAtemp Wiki in the About dialog

here is what happend on mario party8 NTSC
it worked just like wiikey region free.
the game didnt work just had the black screen after it loaded.
turned off wiikey region free. disc recognised. black screen after it loaded
so it does work as a region free
if the game doesnt work on wiikey region free it still wont work with this patch
shame was looking forward to trauma center!

anybody tryed this on any other games yet?

Obviously, simple patching of the ISO's isn't going to yield better compatibility. Hacking into the BIOS will likely be needed to get any more titles working.

I hope they've added a feature to remove the updates from the games.

The inject option does the trick (overwriting the partition identified by type '01'). You can use the 'patch.iso' from wbb or one you have extracted from another game that doesn't have an update.

Aha, so you could copy all the info from a working game and copy this into a non working(even after patching it just by region)?

Many games just work after patching into the PAL region, but some still wont play. The Wii reads them shows start screen but the locks up after start game.
So did Rapala ntsc(usa) after patching it into PAL

Does anybody know where to find a manual for the latest version of regionfrii?

I've got a n00b question about such region patchers in general...

From what I understand, these patchers do the same thing as modchips.

And you need a modchip to play burnt ISOs.

So what is the point of these patchers?
