Gaming Games that people can just pick up and play?

I'm looking for non-complicated, non-music related (yes, that means Ouendan) games that any of my friends can just load up and play without going through some crazy-ass story with alot of text. Games like NSMB and Tetris are games that I'm looking for.

I was going to suggest Tetris

Puyo Pop games are fun... but maybe a bit slow.
Fighting games are often "p&p"-able. (Jump super/ultimate stars, guily gear)

yeah almost all my little cousins play mario and also kirby squeak squad and you cant forget the brain games and tetris. Mario Kart is also very diverse

final fantasy III

k but seriously, I'd say asphalt urban GT, I still to this day play a couple random races on that game, sure its not perfect, but its pretty underrated

tony hawk american skateland is fun just to do a quick run through the courses

sonic rush is great too, I always try to best my time trial record on zone 1 act 1, got it down to 37 seconds

Just make sure you've completed a couple of levels first. Wario Ware is good but the "stories" get in the way, take ages and are unskippable. Pisses me off
