I'm looking for non-complicated, non-music related (yes, that means Ouendan) games that any of my friends can just load up and play without going through some crazy-ass story with alot of text. Games like NSMB and Tetris are games that I'm looking for.

I was going to suggest Tetris [IMG]
Puyo Pop games are fun... but maybe a bit slow.
Fighting games are often "p&p"-able. (Jump super/ultimate stars, guily gear)
    PICROSS!

Issac, Jump Superstars is most definitely not pick-up and play. I wish to god it was, but it isn't :'(

puzzle quest has a pure puzzle element if you skip the story line.

k but seriously, I'd say asphalt urban GT, I still to this day play a couple random races on that game, sure its not perfect, but its pretty underrated

tony hawk american skateland is fun just to do a quick run through the courses

sonic rush is great too, I always try to best my time trial record on zone 1 act 1, got it down to 37 seconds [IMG]

Just make sure you've completed a couple of levels first. Wario Ware is good but the "stories" get in the way, take ages and are unskippable. Pisses me off
