There's a reason it's rated M for Mature. It's about damn time they finally said "It's not our fault that you're too much of a dumbass to read a game's rating".

Although smart kids just pirate GTA behind their parents' backs.

I agree with them, its the parents fault, so they can not complain, I'm not saying kids shouldn't play it but if something happens parents can't balme the company for something they bought their kids

Their games are for 18+. Parents have no right to say that their games make a bad influence.
Its an adult game after. And it will be their fault if ever their kids did "something" wrong
 
Well...yeah. Haha, I never thought I would say this, but good job Rockstar.

I wouldn't say that they are bad parents for buying their kid this game as that's far too much of a blanket statement. It heavily depends on their kid's age, maturity, and the parent's knowledge of the game and/or purchase. By that last point, I mean that if a kid steals their parent's credit card and buys the game without them knowing (for some reason they don't check their statements?), it's not really the parent's fault directly.

Everyone is a bad parent; there is no such thing as a good parent, you just can't do it. You have to be the bad guy, and you have to be the good guy, but most importantly you have to be the guy that is human, not just mom/dad. There's no getting around that.
 
This is a very strategical move as well, the next time people bash rockstar for violence due to computer games, they can point at this and say "we told you so"
 
I've never played GTA, but Rockstar's right. Like Guild said, you should be smart enough to check the rating. If it's rated "M(18+, MA15+ etc.)" you probably shouldn't buy it for your child.
 
I bought (or rather my mum did) GTA, GTA: London and GTA 2 when I was about 13. I never paid interest in the missions and my parents knew that - I was only interested in stealing cars. Although they wouldn't buy the 3D versions for they were too realistic at the time. Come GTA IV and I was about 16 and got my dad to buy it and this time I did do the missions (although it did take a year for me to do it, particularly as I knew what the decision near the end would lead to in either case and I couldn't make that decision) but I knew that it was entirely fictional and my parents decided that based on the fact that what I see in games doesn't influence me in reality (which it does for children), I could play it.

Now while my parents did buy me GTA underage, they took a responsibility in knowing that I can tell the difference between what you can do in a game and what you can't do in reality which is what I think Rockstar are getting at. But if a parent buys GTA for their kid and then their kid becomes too hard to handle, it's their fault. The certificate is there for a reason and in the end it was the parents that bought it and essentially it's bad parenting on their part. They can't then complain and say "that game should never have been made" and it's ridiculous to think that they can say that when if a kid watches Finding Nemo and suddenly starts trying to collect fish and harm them, the parents won't say "that film should never have been made." Meh, it's late I'm not making much sense.

No, it's dead accurate. People who buy their kids GTA are not only bad parents, but they must also be mind-numbingly stupid, and grossly incompetent. They're probably also the type that allowed their kids to grow up on McDonald's.
