I've been dieing to the answer to this question and with so many choices, I thought I'd set up a poll and let the Tempers sort it out. I just switched from Vista to Windows 7 using a clean installation and while installing all my old programs I thought why not try out a new disk defragger? I went with Defraggler.
On my Vista OS, I've used Auslogics Disk Defrag which only showed minor performance increases unless I clicked Optimize which then it took longer but the performance increased slightly more than a regular defrag. Its usual defrag for me was around 2-7 minutes which is most likely the reason behind its poor performance. Also according to the disk map, blocks were NEVER moved to the front of the hard disk and always kept in the same place.
I've also tried Smart Defrag but I've only used it once and since I was young and impatient at the time, I went back to Auslogics and never really got an opinion of Smart Defrag.
I'm currently using Defraggler and I have to say, I'm impressed. The defrag may take around 15-30 minutes but It's well worth the wait. After installing a majority of my programs, my HDD was 200GB. I defraged with Degraggler and I got 40GB back with that one defrag. That made my eyes pop. During the defrag I started to see the block moved from the very end of map to filling the holes in the front.
So which is the best?
