niu, are you the author of these programs? Do you know if there's a list of which chips are real and which are fake?

-Bri

One program checks to see if your DSTT is real or fake. The other is used to recover a fake that's been destroyed by the fake-killer firmware.

-Bri

I guess this new DsttFlashChecker_001 should be used instead of the DsttFakeDetector1.16 from the other post....

Any hopes for a INTEL 28F800B3B compitable version?

Someone else mentioned that they had one of the chips at the bottom of the list and it didn't seem to be detected properly by DsttFlashChecker, but they were able to restore it using the DsttFlashWriter. By the way, DsttFlashWriter 0.04 is an older version. Get the newest here: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?download=4086

That was me. The chip was EON EN29LV400AB - details HERE

I haven't posted on the forums for awhile, so a lot of this DSTT fake stuff is new to me. So the Killer App was released, firmwares with it taken out have been made for download here, and apparently there is a way to recover from the App if you're hit by it. Am I getting this straight? I have been giving these out a birthday gifts and selling them lately, but have been putting an empty version of my 1.15 DSTT (real) rather than redownloading it. So I've never had any issues with the Killer App or the fake screwing up on them. Should I just continue doing this? The 1.16 and 1.17 both had updates for games neither I or any of my friends would play anyways.

Your post sounds about right, except that my understanding is that they've added fake-killer code to the official 1.15 firmware as well, so any official firmware should be avoided. You should be able to run the fake-killer disabled versions of any of the firmware just fine on either a real or fake DSTT. You are correct that there's not much difference between 1.15, 1.16, and 1.17 except a few compatibility fixes.

Download the 1.17 fake-killer disabled firmware (just the TTMENU.DAT file, you'll need to use the official TTMENU folder), fake checker, and fake recovery programs here: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?download=4086

-Bri

I already downloaded them earlier just in case. Since the 1.15 I have on mine was pre-killer it's still fine to distribute that on any of the DSTT's I give/sell correct?

There have been some reports that the earliest official 1.15 had some limited fake-killer code in it, which was later updated to kill more fakes. So although the earliest official 1.15 might be OK for most fakes, it may still kill some. To be sure, I'd just stick with the "safe" 1.17 version that disables the fake-killer code.

If you know they're fakes, you should probably make sure that whoever you give/sell them to know not to update them with the official firmware as new versions become available.

-Bri

I've been telling them for awhile now, glad I did. First time I heard about the hidden killer-code though. I'll warn them about that.

Thanks for this.

I got a fake DSTT from DX. This tool fixed it!
