My best experience is to take a popular subject that gets covered by the mainstream media, and spin it in a intelligent direction, with the help of an article (preferably from an more acadamic source).

Unfortunatly there is not much that you can do in the politics section. It is serious, but also unintelligent for the most part. This creates a disbalance on this site, because it cultivates this kind of behavior while there is no positive counterpart.

Without a balancing counterpart I think it would be better to get rid of the politics section. The downside here is that it would spread the unintelligent negativity across the whole side. What is left? Creating a serious and intelligent counterpart.

In the suggestions section, I have made the mistake of suggesting something that was too specific. My idea is to suggest the vague notion of making a serious and intelligent section, without naming specific options in the future. It could be anything really, as long as it is serious (with consequential thoughts) and unattractive for people who seek to engage in unintelligent discussion.

As it stand right now, I feel the situation is suboptimal. Unfortunatly the often requested deletion of the politics section would pollute the whole site, but keeping the section is cultivating negativity without balancing factors. This in my view, needs an intelligent approach, and should not be ignored.

For those who don't want to engage with this, ignoring it altogether is the way to go.
