Yeah so the games show fine and I can open the start screen but when I click "Start", the screen fades to black and stays black for about 3 seconds and returns me to the homebrew menu.

You click Start in-game? And it goes to black? That doesn't make sense at all. You mean when you launch the game on USBLoaderGX it takes you back to the Homebrew Channel?

I don’t believe I’m in-game at that point yet. It’s like the screen on system menu when you click a channel and it says “Wii Menu” and “Start”.

I just tested and if I launch usbloadergx from homebrew menu, it takes me there but if I launch it from the system menu it takes me there.

Are you sure your games are on the wbfs folder, on either the flash drive or hdd? And did you transfer them with Wii Backup manager?
With the external hdd, are you plugging it in port 0? Does it pass the usb initiation screen?

The games are in the usb like this: USB (F:)\wbfs\GAME NAME [GAME ID]\[GAME ID].wbfs
I didn't transfer them with wii backup manager but I can try that. I always plug the devices into the bottom port and it does pass the screen.

I transferred the games with wii backup manager and they work now! I thought it was only necessary if they were in .iso format but apparently not. Thanks for the help!!
