Since there is probably around a year or more that I last updated my Swtich, I would like to make sure:

1) Should I just copy the latest Atmosphere files to the SD card, and then update the OFW?
Heres a good checklist in proper order with links: https://rentry.org/UpdateCFW
2) Is OFW still being updated using ChoiDujourNX?
Use Ninty servers to upgrade Sysnand if you are clean. Otherwise use Daybreak. Choi can cause bricks due to lack of updates.
3) Is it safe to update OFW to 14.1.0? Or it isn't stable with the latest CFW yet?
very stable
4) And are sigpatches still necessary?
Only if you want to play “backups.”

Thanks a ton!
I guess that updating CFW is probably safer manually rather than using AIO Switch Updater?

I personally think so. There’s a few things to consider to make an AIO work cleanly. Doing it manually gives you more control and makes you read a bit more to understand what’s happening. Once you’ve fully understood it you will want to cruise through the BS quickly and that’s where an AIO comes in. New cats coming in and thinking it’s a short cut and All they need to do is spam the Yes button are what gives AIOs a bad rap…again, IMO.

My original firmware was 4.1.0, I dumped my original nand etc before ever trying CFW. I bought a license from those people that went to jail, and have always used choidujournx when updating my firmware so I wouldn't burn fuses. I want to restore my original nand etc. I can't find the guide to do it, and don't want to make a mistake and brick my unit. Do I need to downgrade to 4.1.0 before restoring the original nand? Is there a homebrew app that can check my fuses? (in case I messed up over the years and burned some) I just want my stock switch back. Thanks everyone
For all you are asking the answer is "Hekate"!

Hekate, more exactly NYX, allows you to restore any sysnand backup, check for burnt fuses and a lot of more things.

If you did use EmuNAND from the start and never boot on your OFW you don't need to restore it, only use your backup to create a new emunand and start over on it. if you did modify your sysnand and never go online is safe to restore you sysnand. but if you go online with your sysnand on any point, restore it and going online after that is a ban for sure.

be sure of read https://nh-server.github.io/switch-guide/ for more information.

Thank you impeeza. I never took the unit online, so I'm good there. I used Hekate and verified that only 5 fuses are burnt which coincides with my memory of the unit having OFW 4.1.0. My assumption moving forward is that IF I restore my original NAND, BOOT0, and BOOT1 from backup, that the unit will be on OFW 4.1.0 AND all my game saves will be gone. Game saves Gone right?

I remember some time ago reading that it is preferable to launch Retroarch through the HB launcher menu in the normal way as opposed to using a Home Screen forwarder because this allowed RA to run better, especially with more demanding emulators like N64.

Is this still true?

But will it cause any issues if I use the cartridge im dumping in title override mode

I wouldn’t think so but honestly I’ve not run into this edge case myself. At worst it would give you a bad dump or not dump at all. It’s not going to hurt anything to just try it and see.

e: I did check NXDumptool and while it doesn’t require title override to start it does say if you experience malloc errors then applet mode is the likely culprit and to relaunch with title override.

I updated my system to 11.0.1 using daybreak so I could play my games. Now I have to update my two games I want to play, but I am not exactly sure how to do that. Could anyone help me out please? Just wanted to say thanks for the help.

one more thing would dumping my cartridge ban me if i use it on my main console? would nintendo know i would have dumped it, and if i were to get banned would they ban the consoles that used the cartridge?

A cartridge has a unique ID and that ID showing up in two places at the same time will potentially trigger a ban. Installing a cartridge image will be different than mounting a cartridge. converting it to nsp and installing would be an instaban. Best to keep all of that on Emunand and offline.

You can source the update .nsp backups from your favorite stash and then install them like normal “games” to update the base game.
