I was wondering how to add 3ds games to the r4?

Normal R4 carts are running in DS mode and cannot play 3DS games.

The easiest way to play 3DS games is installing custom firmware by following The Guide.

You won't brick your system, especially if you are following that guide. 3DS flashcarts actually have a higher risk and history of bricking systems.
Just follow The Guide and ask questions if you aren't sure about something. Chances are high that it's an almost always small issue and easily fixed.
