this isn’t great. We need to fix. See link below.

correct

This is great. any line beginning with # is a comment and is not part of the configuration. You should read what each of these options do.

End of documentations…this next section without # sign is the part you need to replace in the file with the data in the link below.

Here is the missing link for both exosphere.ini and dns:mitm

https://rentry.org/ExosphereDNSMITM

These are likely unrelated so let’s one one thing at a time to avoid confusion.
im sorry for being noob here
but there are 2. Emu and Sys - Nand.

so how do i know which is which to put where?
like i remove the sd card, use card reader, insert in the pc. is that Sys or Nand?
and i think, i dont have partition in my sd card (or is there a way to check?)

theres this note "
Note:
If you plan to use atmosphere on SysNAND for online play and EmuNAND for offline play, rename the file to emummc.txt."

yes im planning to play online in the future..

seeing my attached picture is i compared my cousins version 1 and version 2.
in version 1 there is "2" exosphere.ini" and the folder has a "lot" of files inside
while version 2 has only "1" exosphere.ini and the folder has only "1" file inside

i want to try doing something like deleting all family folder of exosphere and copying the v1.
but im afraid to mess things up. now i want to back all the files.

but the problem is that i tried to transfer all the files from sd card to pc but its to big and no space
upon checking the folders, i found the folder name "nintendo/content" with 213gb
im assuming this is where all the games installed folder? correct me if im wrong.
in any case. can i leave not copying this folder?
also is there some other files in my console that i need to back up or something?

just a little background of me.
i bought the version 2 that is already jbreak with modchip
i never had ns before so im not evn familiar what it looks like the ofw
the seller did not teach me anything at all.

this is my version 2
picture 1: this is the first stop when opening the switch
picture 2: choosing hekate wil give me some kind of warning "Old Nyx Gui found!, update the bootloader folder"
press any key | any key doesnt work, but when i press the power button, i went to hekate menu
picture 3: is the hekate menu. i only use this one to copy paste game from pc using "option/tools/usb"
picture 4: when i choose "launch". it has 4 icon. ams, reinx, sxos, android retro pack
is the ams for atmosphere? in any case when i choose ams, it doesn load. i have to reboot (hold power button) and launch atmosphere from the first stop (picture 1)

also i saw "incognito" in the firs stop (picture 1)
maybe i have to configure that as well? i mean to block and nintendo line/site.

i found this in defalut.txt

correct. Most setups are one Sysnand and one Emunand
so how do i know which is which to put where?

like i remove the sd card, use card reader, insert in the pc. is that Sys or Nand?
and i think, i dont have partition in my sd card (or is there a way to check?)
Sysnand can never leave the system without opening up the Switch and moving physical chips.
Emunand can only ever be on a SD card. it will never be inside the Switch itself…only ever in the SD card reader.
theres this note "

Note:
If you plan to use atmosphere on SysNAND for online play and EmuNAND for offline play, rename the file to emummc.txt."

yes im planning to play online in the future..
The note you quoting is suggesting CFW on Sysnand. And while you technically can do that, to be safe (in your case) I recommend you only take your Sysnand online using OFW. The CFW (Atmosphere) on Sysnand statement will not apply to you. This will avoid any confusion.

Emunand should have a properly configured exosphere.ini and default.txt just like this:

https://rentry.org/ExosphereDNSMITM

seeing my attached picture is i compared my cousins version 1 and version 2.
in version 1 there is "2" exosphere.ini" and the folder has a "lot" of files inside
while version 2 has only "1" exosphere.ini and the folder has only "1" file inside

i want to try doing something like deleting all family folder of exosphere and copying the v1.
but im afraid to mess things up. now i want to back all the files.
no sense in muddying the situation by copying files from different systems. Follow the guide and get known working files for yourself. It will work for you like it has worked for everyone else.
but the problem is that i tried to transfer all the files from sd card to pc but its to big and no space
upon checking the folders, i found the folder name "nintendo/content" with 213gb
im assuming this is where all the games installed folder? correct me if im wrong.
in any case. can i leave not copying this folder?
also is there some other files in my console that i need to back up or something?
leave the game files alone. Just follow the guide.

That’s fine.

Let’s do the following:

on you sd card:
move /atmosphere to /atmosphere.bak
move /bootloader to /bootloader.bak

Follow the guide (no need to create a new Emunand so STOP when it says to partition your disk…you are done…just reboot.)

Hello I am going to hack my switch soon but I needed some opinions. I got the original switch model so it's definitely hackable. Right now I am at firmware 9.0.1 I'm pretty sure I got everything I need to get it set up ,but right now I am not sure if I should update my switch first then put Atmosphere on it or if I should just stay on my current firmware. The latest firmware is hackable right? Any reason I should stay on my current firmware or is it ok to update my system. I have Zero and Ao no kiseki I am trying to play, but it requires a higher firmware so that's why I am posting this message. If I have any more questions that I think of I will replay to this message. Thanks to those that can help.

Originally, the only reason to stay on lower firmware versions was to wait for an exploit to be released on a lower firmware version. However the exploit, Fusee Gelee, was leaked which would work on the first generation of Nintendo Switch consoles no matter what firmware so technically, its not so much that the latest firmware is hackable but your console will always be hackable. But Fusee Gelee isn't the perfect exploit in everyone's minds; it is a tethered coldboot hack. The ideal exploit would have been an untethered coldboot. Because of this, there is some merit to lower firmware versions since objectively speaking, lower firmware versions have a better chance at hiding an exploit than lower firmware versions. Normally fuses inside the console prevent us from downgrading the firmware but if you update the firmware without burning fuses, you can retain a path to downgrading in the event an untethered coldboot or better exploit is ever released in the future that requires a specific firmware version. The simplest way to update the firmware without burning fuses is by using the homebrew application Daybreak which comes bundled with Atmosphere by default. Since the only way to play newer games is by updating your firmware, you will have to update in order to play that game. And since there is a way to update your firmware without burning fuses, you don't have to worry about never being able to return to your original firmware.

It looks like you have some things from RR. We're going to ignore them for now.

You should just do what's listed here: https://rentry.org/ExosphereDNSMITM

Nothing more, nothing less.

------------------------------------------

my sd card through pc is all i see is folder name atmosphere and cant find atmosphere.bak
should i do these "move" thing where? i mean hekate, tinfoil?

On Windows, you can use the move command to rename a directory.

I'm saying that you should rename the directory from /atmosphere to /atmosphere.bak and then rename /bootloader to /bootloader.bak

The directory won't exist until you rename it to that directory.

uhm. what guide?

Once you have fixed /exosphere.ini and /atmosphere/hosts/default.txt and then renamed /atmosphere and /bootloader you will be ready to go to the front page of the guide located here: https://rentry.org/SwitchHackingIsEasy

before and now
i guess im doing it wrong T_T

No worries. I will be more explicit.

should i also changed this one too?
change it to:

127.0.0.1 *nintendo.*
127.0.0.1 *nintendo-europe.com
127.0.0.1 *nintendoswitch.*
95.216.149.205 *conntest.nintendowifi.net
95.216.149.205 *ctest.cdn.nintendo.net

This looks like the correct /atmosphere/hosts/default.txt file!

FAT32 is the preferred filesystem and is less prone to corruption on the Switch as exfat has flaky drivers. What is your use case for wanting to diverge from the happy path?

I have tinfoil14 installed on 1.3.1 Atmosphere on 14.1.0 FW. Do you have the name of a title that gets stuck? I have a copy of the previous version of Tinfoil (13) if you need it.

I know FAT32 is better but I could not install any games via USB (because I cannot copy files bigger than 4GB on SD card) it just wouldnt connect. I tried it with Tinfoil and Awoo but nothing.. I formated my SD card to exFAT on my PC and copied files back on it and it's working fine for now.

It's every game basically but the problem is in Tinfoil since I managed to install all of them with Awoo.. not sure what's the problem that Tinfoil won't install them.

Correct. You cannot copy files larger than 4G to a FAT32 sd card. That said, you don't need to copy the file to the file system to install games larger than 4G. Tinfoil knows how to split large files to install them on your sd card automatically when you install over USB. Here's a quick guide on how to do this. https://gbatemp.net/threads/tinfoil-usb-installer.538457/#post-8650581

Alternatively, you could look at DBI which does something similar:

https://github.com/rashevskyv/dbi/blob/main/README_ENG.md

Does anyone have a definitive guide on how to update Firmware with day break, it seems I keep messing up, and my emunand ends up with errors Half the time, I need help fixing it.

I was trying to update to 14.1.0 the newest versions of atmosphere, hekate, sigpatches, and Day Break, in that order and ended up with this error.

Remove MissionControl

Older versions of it don’t work with new FW.

It’s the following directory:
/atmosphere/contents/010000000000bd00

(the rest of your process looks good BTW)

Rename your /atmosphere/contents folder to /atmosphere/contents.bak and see if you can boot up. If it does it means you have a sys-module that doesn’t work with 14.1.0. To find out which one you can recreate the /atmosphere/contents directory and move the date from /atmosphere/contents.bak over to it in small batches while rebooting in between. Remember what yiu copy over in each batch because When it doesn’t boot you will then know it was one of the small group you just brought over. Make sense?

popular modules that cause conflict will be:
themes
missioncontrol
fizeau

full list of modules and their title ids can be found here.

Put the emunand version of the exosphere.ini in the root of the sd card. This version will blank out your Prodinfo and make it all zeros.
It will do it only for emunand because we don’t want emunand to identify itself to Nintendo.
We do NOT want to do the same for Sysnand because we want to use Sysnand online and we DO want to connect to Nintendo with Sysnand.
If we blank out the Prodinfo they will block us.
make sense?
basically just rename the folder to atmosphere.bak?
Yes. Your graphic show it correctly. This means everything we are about to do will be in clean new directories.
there 6 of them, what guid should i follow?

Correct. There are 6 different Switch configurations to consider based oh how your system is set up.

We do not want to do this on Sysnand so we can cross out 3 of them.
On Wednesday’ you said:
i have cfw switch v2
Please confirm you are NOT on V1 (Erista). If so this will eliminate the (1) option.

Once you confirm you ARE on V2 (Mariko) that will leave us with two options: (3) and (5).

Make sense?

Masterkey 10, sdk 11. This is not the problem. Those rom sites generally have no idea what they're talking about (scroll down and see comments confirming it working on sx.)

1649501041821.png

The real problem is (most likely) that whatever shop they're using is hosting the .xci instead of the eshop nsp, and the .xci probably uses masterkey 12. Or what they're hosting is corrupted/invalid. Or perhaps their sig patches are broken. idk.

Hey, quick question.

I want to back up my games to use later in an emulator, but some of the games I have, mainly SSBU (With all of the DLC fighters and some of the mii costumes), have multiple update/DLC files.

When choosing whrich update to dump from NXdumptool, Is there a specific update should be looking for? Also, do I have to select the dlc character updates individually?

I was able to successfully download and install Kirby and the Forgotten Land via Tinfoil Q’shop, but upon trying to launch, it fails and I get corrupted data. I’m on SX OS, emuNAND, 11.0.0. I know it’s time to switch, but hoping I could squeeze by for one more game. Pokémon Arceus and Metroid Dread work.
Masterkey 10, sdk 11. This is not the problem. Those rom sites generally have no idea what they're talking about (scroll down and see comments confirming it working on sx.)

The real problem is (most likely) that whatever shop they're using is hosting the .xci instead of the eshop nsp, and the .xci probably uses masterkey 12. Or what they're hosting is corrupted/invalid. Or perhaps their sig patches are broken. idk.

@Takokeshi fair points. Thanks for the clarification.

Double checked the VENOM release and confirmed Integrity. All looks good to go on 11.0.0.

@fuze9 see above. Apologies for the misinformation. Hopefully not too late?!?!? (You should still consider at least dual boot...just sayin.)

If more information is needed, I will provide.
You will have to dump everything individually.

You should only have one update installed so that is not a concern.
