I'm just wondering and thought I'd ask in general. Do you do a nand backup before each version change? Or any modding? Or just have one since the start?

I never do. All my important stuff gets synced, and I usually post all my photos and videos, so I won't lose anything if my SD card takes a dump.

The purpose of a backup is to recover from a brick. And if your console is unpatched, then even the fuses won't prevent you from restoring very old backups. One is sufficient but there is nothing stopping you from making more as long as you keep track of them.

I have two, one from when i used cfw for the very first time and another i made around one year later when i was experimenting with some stuff.

I don't see the need to make a new backup with every firmware change, even less with my emunand (which i can just recreate to be honest). But storing your backup in multiple different places is good practice though.

Or most surround sound receivers are 3 HDMI in, one HDMI out to tv, and you can select which hdmi in
    you want on the receiver.
