Hacking Delete all mods on my Wii

Hello.
I've done a factory reset on my wii because I've modded it in the past. I thought it would delete all mods but unfortunately it didn't. There is still a ModMii window when you start the wii. I don't have a homebrew channel anymore. I've read that you should update to delete all mods,wads and so on.

The Wii version is 4.1E.
I haven't done this in a while so I'm not sure how to run a syscheck without the homebrew channel.

Hello. Thank you for the fast answer. Interesting to see that there is still a community about wii hacking. It appears when I press power and if I press reset nothing special happens.


I'm a little bit afraid to update my wii because it tells me that this might brick my wii.

Modmii is a Windows program, you are NOT seeing a modmii window in your wii. You may mean "bootmii". In which case I suggest you leave this installed for brick protection. If u want to boot straight to the system menu, rename the bootmii folder on your sd card to something different

You're right. It's BootMii. I want to sell my wii so that's why I want to completetly delete all modifications of my wii.

If they aren't trying to mod their wii in the future, bootmii won't ever load, so leaving it in place is fine. If u insist on uninstalling it u are taking an unnecessary risk, but to do so, just run the hackmii installer from an exploit and have it uninstall bootmii @boot2

Edit: also, wouldn't a properly modded console be more desirable than a virgin console?

I will check the prices and whether it's against the rules selling a modded wii.

And I've checked it again. When I start the wii it's a command prompt called ModMii which tells me to press A.

I'm trying this guide to mod my wii again because I've read somewhere that you can use a generic nand image by giantpune to reset your wii to stock.
I don't get a folder called private when I use the PAL-Version of the Smash exploit by giantpunte. Can someone assist me here? Which files belong where exactly? EDIT: I've tried the twillight exploit as well. Didn't work either.

If you could share a pic or video I would appreciate it. I developed a Wii modding tool called ModMii, and if something is being distributed with a similar name but with a *screw for the O in M*dMii I want to know about it

Have you tried holding reset while booting the wii to see if priiloader is installed? There are 2 ways that the console would fail to update due to softmods. The first is if a priiloader system menu hack is disabling it, the second is it someone installed a modified 4.1 system menu version to appear as if it was version 65535, and then it would think 4.3 is actually an older firmware and not update to it.

Obviously other reasons exist, like bad/no wifi.

Oh, I can assist with smash stack, but honestly since you're on 4.1 you can just use bannerbomb v1, which just requires an SD card (no disc needed). Str2hax would probably also work, but requires wifi (no sd card required, but obviously will still be needed to restore a nand backup if that's your plan)

Thank you so much XFlak. Now I have the homebrew channel again but the guide in the video didn't do anything for me although everything was succesful. Maybe I've misunderstood what he wanted to achieve.
So for me I have to find out how to get rid of this other ModMii thing in the beginning and of every other mod. I will post a syscheck.

You have to decide if you want to remove all visible traces of a softmod, that would go unnoticed unless someone tries to softmod again at some point in the future.

Or, do you want to truly virginize the console using giantpune's Ohneschwanzenegger? Note that this is a more risky procedure, but if executed properly should be fine.

Once you decide which route to take we can dive into the actual steps involved.

You can turn off GPS location in the camera app on your phone. Also, if you right click a picture in Windows and go to the Details tab, click "Remove Properties and Personal Information", select "Remove the following...", click "Select All" and hit OK twice all EXIF tag data such as GPS location will be deleted. There are also tools you can use to batch delete it from a larger number of pictures.

Can you tell us which text appears on screen right before sysCheck crashes? If it crashes on a specific IOS you can add that one IOS to the ignore list.

Update your sysCheck with the latest version from https://gbatemp.net/threads/posting-a-system-check.300279/ and follow the instructions there for posting a syscheck. It also tells you how to ignore a particular problem IOS.

This "special ModMii" screen you keep mentioning is probably from a custom system menu theme. In which case, it will be gone once you update the console. But don't update it yet, that should be the final step after you've removed everything else, to restore the stubbed IOSes that cIOS overwrites.

Building a new NAND is not necessary, but it is the only way to remove absolutely all traces of a previously hacked console. But an average end user can not spot those traces, they're only relevant for warranty, and all Wiis have been out of warranty for a long time now, so they really don't matter. It's much easier to simply delete any cIOSes, uninstall Priiloader, BootMii, uninstall any homebrew related channels and pirated VC/WiiWare and then updating the console. Building a new NAND is usually reserved for problem Wiis which exhibit strange issues that can't be fixed any other way.
