How to solve any custom firmware 3DS problem – 100% working tutorial

You all know this is EOF and therefore not serious. I hope search engines to not try to give this any form of meaning.
For any random visitor coming from a search engine: This is not a real tutorial. This is dangerous nonsense! It comes from my frustration over people randomly deleting things on errors.

Tutorial for solving any error on the 3DS

So. You are here because you encountered an error with your 3DS. Like, for example this one:


Do not do anything stupid like this:

Step 1

Format your SD. Always a good idea to have a fresh start.


If your 3DS or 2DS does not turn on after this and only lights up the blue LED for some seconds, go directly to Step 4.

Step 2

Your SD maybe clean now, but this didn't do the trick, right? There is more to clean up. Format your 3DS! Go back to factory defaults! Ignore any warnings about data loss; don't even read them!

Step 3

This didn't solve your problem? Now you noticed the custom firmware is still there? I can help you with that. Get rid of the CFW! Do not pay attention to the red screen trying to scare you.

Step 4

Now you deleted everything and notice you lost your save data, your games and everything or your console is softbricked. Maybe the steps 1-3 weren't such a good idea after all… Solution: Fill out the form on https://gbatemp.net/register and once you have your account, create a new thread with a non-descriptive title. Say you accidentally deleted your SD and bricked your console. Nobody will notice it wasn't accidentally. Use some exclamation marks !! to get the attention faster.

1. I realize that uninstalling CFW would actually get rid of the problem with pm in outdated Luma3DS on latest firmware. I just chose this error because it was so easy to provoke.

Oh my… NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! How could that happen??

But… maybe it is not the worst thing. I wrote it very big and red that this is not a real tutorial. And if somebody stumbles upon it before deleting things it might actually do something good.

I still don't understand this. I used every stupid thing that should be a red flag. Stupid click bait "solve any CFW problem" and "100% working". That is the most ridiculous thing I could write. Something bad YouTube channels have on their video titles.

Should this thread be deleted? I really did not have any bad intention when writing this.

Something could have failed in the charger that would have caused it to send wrong voltages that the 3DS can't handle, I hear that this is a common issue with old Commodore power supplies for example.

Do not get encouraged,try it,again and again please.

Maybe after 175 - 290 bricked Devices the Manual should finally work.....so..

Honestly, this thread was not a good idea (And it took about an hour to get all the screenshots and the text prepared).
Lesson learned. Sinchen will stay out of EOF and go back to the (3)DS and Wii(U) section where she belongs.

I've seen too many "I accidentally deleted/formatted/removed […]"-topics and lost my temper this morning when thinking about this for no reason.

Believe it or not: My motivation is exactly the opposite – even with this nonsense thread – trying to salvage devices. Since 2|3DS is out of production now, a lost console is one less on earth and that is bad. Hopefully 3DS will stay around as long as Game Boy.

That thought is awful. One would blow three consoles before suspecting the charger. Is this even possible on modern power supplies?

No. Destroying three or four 2|3DS consoles will summon an angry erinys which will stop you.

No idea if this ever happens but it's probably not impossible. And don't forget that some 3DS users who broke their custom firmware could also be using a cheap dodgy third-party charger or one of those USB cables... I got one of those scary-looking Chinese third-party chargers when I bought a new3DS from a used game store. Never plugged that into any 3DS or DSi.
I'm hoping that at least in most cases it would only blow those little fuses which are relatively easy to replace compared to some much worse fault in the charging IC or main SoC.

I'm guessing it would go to the charging IC and then it's up to it to handle that voltage or decide to shut itself off until the higher voltage is gone. Thinking of it now, those fuses probably only protect from overcurrent/short-circuit, so a worse higher voltage might still be able to get past the fuse and fry the charging IC or even the rest of the system.
