Hacking Do I need to have the same account for save backups to work?

Hello, I tried searching the forums and the internet but I am not sure I have an answer to this question.

Basically, I have a bunch of saves from my games on emmunand. However, after updating sysnand on daybreak and choosing not to keep my settings, my switch wiped my original accounts. I am now planning on creating a new emmunand (I bought a sd card) using the new sysnand. The problem is, the account I backed up my save on is wiped clean. The question is, if I create a new account (unlinked with Nintendo) on my emmunand and then use checkpoint or JKSD to put back my saves, will they work even if the account has changed? If not, is there a way to backup my entire account from an old emmunand I have on another SD card so that I can put it in my new emmunand?

In short, will backup saves from one acount work on another account on the same switch?

Guess I'm not 100% clear on your statement "my switch wiped my original accounts". If that's the case where are you going to get the saves to restore? But if somehow, you have saves that were exported from JKSV prior to the wipe, then you can import those to any account. I've done this a few times.

Thank you for your reply wiiNinja. Based on your answer, my saves would work. I have managed to get my saves since the emmunand partition of my old sd card was still there. But nothing else (i.e. folders in my fat32 partition) were gone.

Here's an account of my trip in hell...

yesterday I kept messing up and everytime I tried to fix things I made things worse. I started migrating my emmunand to a new microsd. I used Birb's switch guide (awesome guide by the way). I did the partition and transfered the Nand to it. I then was busy copying all the folders to the fat32 partition. However, I was also working on some other computer stuff on another microsd card (I have two slots) and mistakenly formatted the mirosd card I just prepared for my switch. To be clear, I formated the fat 32 partition not the emmunand partition. I also had deleted permanently any backups of my old sd so I couldn't get those files back

In trying to find a way to get those folders back I also realized that, when restoring my old emmunand to my new SD card in Hekate I forgot to put "on" the SD emuMMC Raw Partition in Hekate so I actually replaced my sysNand the first time I did the process. To be fair, Hekate crashed when i tried to select restore "emmuMMC RAW GPP" just after I restore Boot 0 and Boot 1 so when I loaded Hekate again I assumed the SD emuMMC Raw Partiion was on and click on EmmuMMC RAW GPP. BIG MISTAKE, In any case, I then realized my mistake and did everythig again the proper way. However, I was not aware that my mistake overwrote my sysnand. I found out hours later by getting a bluescreen if I booted my sysnand up. It gets worse...

I then tried reinstalling my sysnand from an old backup but that copy ended up being on a lower firmware than my fuses. I figured this out after hours of searching. I would only get a black screen when booting my switch normally I then booted atmosphere in sysnand and updated with daybreak to the firmware with the right fuse count. I mistakenly selected to not keep any files. When my switch rebooted to sysnand I got the whole setup guide as if I just bought my switch.

One good thing out of all this is that my new microsd still had the emmunand 29 gig hidden partition and files on it. What I did was I got all the folders from another emmunand sd card I had lying around and put it in my new microsd card. Of course the games installed were not the same so there would be mismatched information between the emmunand partition files and what was on my fat32 (i.e. the emmunand would think I had certain games installed but I did not). However, I didnt care as I wanted to get my saves which are stored on the emmunand.

As of now, I am wondering if I could simply start from scratch and use the new sysnand I just installed and create an emmunand out of that. Since I had to create a new account I was wondering if some of my old saves could be uploaded. Based on yoru answer. It can so great news.

I wrote this long account as a warning to others. If you want to save hours of your life. Don't mess arround with the emmunands and microsd card transfers. It would have been much simpler to just create everthing from scratch reinstall my games and then transfer my saves over using JKSV.... 2 days later and I seem to be out of the woods...

also, in trying to fix my switch I mistakenly formatted my entire second drive for my windows pc!!!! Lesson #2: Never EVER EVER have too many drives hooked up to your computer (microsd, usb, external drives) it is so easy to confuse the drives.

Ah, to much mistakes... There‘s a bug in Hekate which crashes after baking up Boot 0 and 1. I had to do the exact same thing, because my SD was full and i needed a larger one. So i backed up my RAW Partition based EmuMMC and had the same issue, that it crashed. Yeah, you have to switch to EmuMMC because the SysNand is selected per default.

But why you didn‘t use the backup from the RAW Partition to restore your EmuNand ? As far as i know, the savegames where all stored on the System Partition and not in the Nintendo folder on the SD Card Partition. There‘s only the content of the games, which can be easy reinstalled. I think your actual savegames where on the EmuNand and not on the SysNand ?

However, it‘s good that you could fix it. Sometimes one mistake makes you nervous, so the next will happen instant. I know those situations to good.

Boy do I feel dumb. I read up on the idea about restoring EmuNand from RAW Partition. I actually didn't know you could do that. I thought that folder must have been created from magical unicorns or something (I am kidding). I didn't quite understand what the functions did in HEKATE so it just didn't occure to me. Instead I used files from another emmunand to do which took over 1 hour to transfer. AAAHHHH! Well now I know. =)

Next time, keep a backup of your emuMMC or at least the individual save files.
