I’m running 11.0 fine on SX OS but remember there’s 11.0.1 which isn’t supported yet.

Are you sure your SD card is fine? If it is formatted as exFAT, the contents may have easily become corrupted. Format to FAT32 and try again.

  1. As a basic test, put the latest boot.dat file in a seperate SD card, run it, look at the left bottom corner, it should say "SX OS V3.1.0";
  2. There is an important difference between "EmuNAND on hidden partition" and "EmuNAND on files". If former, then I read from somewhere that you can extract the emulation sytem files by a tool called "EmuTool". I have not tried myself;
  3. If latter, you should backup the emulation system files before upgrade/ format SD card. Simple copy-and-paste;
  4. If it turns out that you have wiped out the emulation system files, create again, takes about an hour. However, if the real system is 11.0.1, you also create emulation system files with 11.0.1. From what I've read, downgrading is time consuming/ difficult. They encourage people to switch to Atmosphere;
  5. Plug in the charger so you won't run out of battery while creating the emulation system files;
  6. I have two SD cards. The 64 GB card is "EmuNand on files" whereas the 128 GB card is "EmuNAND on hidden partition", which is supposed to be safer because it is harder to mess up with the emulation system files;
  7. The hidden partition takes about 30 GB, so the visible storage space on the 128 GB card is 90 GB;
  8. SD cards on exFAT (formatted by PC), but I don't know about the hidden partition. As I can't see it on my PC, I cannot determine whether the hidden partition is FAT32 or exFAT.

I've been running sxos on a exfat formatted sdcard since it was released with no issues. I believe that exfat has issues with retroarch though.
exFAT has issues outside of Retroarch not limited to but including corruption and causing black screens when booting a firmware without exFAT support.

If the card is corrupted, you need to fix it. You should also reformat it as FAT32 if it's on exFAT.

Switching to FAT32 is highly recommended. To use an analogy, I've never been in a car accident before, but that doesn't mean I don't need to wear a seatbelt. The fact that your SD card has never had corruption problems doesn't mean the exFAT drivers aren't buggy on the Switch and prone to corruption.

For me it's too much hassle. I would need to convert all my xci's so that they are split into 4GB chunks. Just not worth it. If my card goes corrupt I would just format and stick the xci's back on.

If you're keeping XCI files on your SD card, you're doing something wrong. Installing them like NSP files to the SD card works fine on FAT32 cards. XCI files are generally only good for USB storage devices.

I disagree. SXOS mounts xci files, so it is perfectly fine to have them on the sdcard. I do use a USB HDD for when i am docked.
