This time last year, the Nintendo Switch had just surpassed the sales numbers of both the Super Nintendo and the Xbox One, having secured itself 52 million total units sold. Now, as of the latest fiscal update, the Switch has just barely beaten out the Nintendo 3DS. The latter attained 75.94 million sales throughout its lifespan, with 385.85 million software sales. By comparison, the Switch has reached 79.87 million hardware sales, and 532.34 million games sold. Game sales for the platform increased year-over-year, with Animal Crossing: New Horizons managing 31.18 million sales in less than a year since its launch, while the limited-time exclusive compilation Super Mario 3D All-Stars hit over 8 million sales.

not sure, by comparison, the ps3 uses around 50MBs. it was over 100MBs, but it doesn't matter much. the ps3 doesn't offer shared ram, so it won't benefit the games. that's the main reason 360 games usually run better. it does offer shared ram.

The OS is a lot more than just the home menu but even just accounting for the home menu that article is inaccurate. Qlaunch is several mb in size (source: XorTroll in AtlasNX discord while discussing Ulaunch) but even if you don't trust Xor, you can tell that it must be larger than a few kb because the icons are 512 by 512 jpegs which must take up a significant amount more than 200 kb

I much prefer the New 3DS XL over the Switch; it really shouldn't have been killed off so soon.
The 3DS has a ton more better games (Pokemon games without removed content, Ace Attorney series, Bravely Default and Second, Super Mario 3D Land, A Link Between Worlds, etc.) and is actually portable. Oh, and FREE online!

Hell, I'm even playing on my New 3DS XL right now. The Switch is annoyingly mediocre in a multitude of ways - paywalled online, shit controllers, lack of themes, subpar Home UI, lack of Virtual Console and backwards-compatibility.
I do have fun with the Switch at times, but the 3DS has always provided more enjoyment than it. Always.

I agree very much. My 3DS still gets a lot more use while my Switch mostly just collects dust. Still much more enjoyable games on the 3DS, at least for me.
My switch is only a bit over 3 years old and it already had a lot of issues both with the console itself and the joy-con controllers. One pair of joy-cons has drifting sticks, both of the controllers in that pair needed a replacement of the part with the side buttons and lights because it's so terribly designed, my other pair has some issues with the buttons, the joy-cons fall out of the switch by themselves, the stand on the switch itself can barely stay attached, and the joy-cons like to randomly disconnect when I am right in front of the console. In reality I probably had even more issues that I cannot even remember anymore.
My 3DS is probably more than 9 years old at this point and has been in my heavily-used possession for more than 3 years, it only needed a replacement of the battery and the shoulder buttons. Still works flawlessly and is enjoyable without a controller sliding out or disconnecting every other minute.
I think Nintendo just lost their magic together with Iwata, they only care about earning money through not very nice practices these days. Their games on the Switch were nice for a while, but unfortunately I feel like the quality of the games has also been getting much worse recently.

the switch might have better success against piracy if they had some sort of achievement system. that's the reason I'm thinking about buying a legit superslim ps3 and some games. I didn't care for trophies before, but I have virtually 0 at the moment. I know a lot of people would go legit with some sort of achievement system, because they game for them and are afraid of an account banning. I don't plan to buy another ps4, but I might buy a ps5 once they come down in price.

I can tell you that I can't imagine that many people give a crap about that. I'm playing through the Yakuza remasters atm, and I'll playing Yakuza 5 for the next decade if I was to even attempt to platinum that game!

My favorite nintendo console is still the Wii u. Easy to hack, backward compatibility with wii and gamecube games, virtual console, emulation and homebrew machine.
Only the name sucks.
And yes I know it was failed console but I don't rank consoles by their sales figures like most of the people on youtube do.

I think you're wrong. a lot of people like the notoriety, that which won't be realized if using emunand. they have sites dedicated to it for both xbox and playstation.

I liked the wiiu, but if you already have a wii (like me) then you have to judge it on the merits of its own library. Just wiiu games.

Nintendo and 3rd party skimped on the wiiu and so the library isn't great. I still had a lot of fun with it playing Smash, MK8, BOTW, Mario Maker and Splatoon. But I missed any real animal crossing game, pokemon game, metroid game etc. It also sucked it only got a zelda game on its very last day.

Due to the fact that almost everything the wiiu had to offer is now on the switch, I have no reason to take the thing out of its box anymore.

It was a good nintendo box while it lasted, but it doesn't have much of a use case anymore. And admittedly the gamepad was clunky and was never really fully utilized by even nintendo itself. And the claims of being able to one day use 2 wiiu gamepads never came to fruition.

MK8 deluxe is a port which means it didn't have a ton of momentum. It also launched when install base was low, so the number of people it was marketed towards at the time was low.

Then consider games sell most of their copies in the first few weeks of their release, and it makes sense why the game didn't come flying off the shelves.

enough to warrant achievement/trophy inclusion on even the latest consoles. that's why they have a trophy backup/restore payload for the ps4. at the time, I didn't care, but it would've been nice now to have gotten my trophies back. I would've if you could put them on another account. people obviously want them or they wouldn't be included with games.

Not necessarily - it's also possible to judge the Wii U (versus the original Wii) based on the default controller. In this competition, the Wii U wins hands-down due to not having bullshit dysfunctional motion controls forced down players' throats like a freaking disease. No, the Wii U has the much more reliable and comfortable GamePad, and barely uses the stupid Wiimote pointer controls.

Plus the Wii U offers backwards-compatibility and quite widespread Virtual Console support, though the former only really works if the horrific motion controls decide to behave themselves.
